Nihao!

This is kinda WAFFy, heck, it IS WAFFy. Beware of enough sugar floating about to cause cavities if you are not in the V-Day mood. That great bunch of people, GANIX owns Neon Genesis Evangelion, and I'm borrowing the title from a recent movie. Of course I don't own any of it.

You've Got Mail

	'You've got mail!'

The happy tone of his computer's message jerked Shinji out of a rather involved daydream involving his father, Gendou, and Unit-01, or rather his father _under_ Unit-01. The young pilot flinched for a second, and looked around wildly.

But nothing was stirring as the teacher attempted to once again bore the class to death. Toji was slumped across his desk, Kensuke was busy hacking something, and Asuka snickered at him and Rei...

Shinji blinked, Rei had actually looked at him, for all of one second then turned to look out the window again.

The teacher droned on and on, "You may not remember it, but before the Second Impact, this time was spring time. And it was around this time that young people started to get together in honor of..."

Shinji turned his attention to the computer on his desktop, and at the blinking mail icon that was awaiting his response. He gave the classroom one more quick look to see if he could find the sender of the message. No luck, the teacher had mesmerized everyone.

" It was during that day that young girls would give candy to their loved ones. It was said that a boy who accepted that candy accepted the girl's heart. I remember those days well"

'Well, there's one way to find out who sent it,' Shinji thought to himself. He moved the pointed and double clicked on it, bring up the message.

Strangely enough, there was no return or originating address. Just a message addressed to him.

	Will you accept my heart?
	And be mine?
	Will you be my Valentine?

Shinji read the message, then re-read it, and read it again not believing his eyes. 'Has to be a prank,' he though. Looking around, he caught Asuka's bored glance. She focused in on him and smirked again.

Shinji's features tightened, and he fired off an email to his supposed tormentor.

Very funny, Asuka, next time try Kensuke.

He turned in his seat to see Asuka also jerk a bit when the mail came in. She opened it and turned as red as her EVA. Shinji gulped, the fallout from this wouldn't be good.

As if confirming his assessment, a few seconds later, another email made its way to his computer.

Baka Shinji! I don't want to talk to any of you three stooges, and further more, I have no idea what sick twisted things you are thinking that I did. Write me again, Third Children, and I'll skin you alive.

Shinji frowned, not only had he managed to get Asuka mad at him, something that happened quite a bit, but he still had not found the person who sent him the email.

'It must have been a joke,' he decided finally.

'You've got mail!' his computer cheerfully announced. Like the first one, it had no address on it.

Grumbling a bit to himself, Shinji called up the message.

	You haven't answered.

Shinji looked around the room again, no one moved, except Asuka how scowled at him.

"What the hell," he sighed to himself, and pressed the button for reply.

	Who are you?

Shinji typed that and sent it off. To his surprise, it didn't come back with an error message demanding an address to send it to.

After a few minutes of no replies, Shinji decided that he had called who ever it was bluff. A split second after he arrived at this conclusion, another email showed up.

Re: V-Day

I am one who desires you, Ikari Shinji.

Shinji's brows drew together, and he sneaked one more look around.

Re: V-Day

	This is a joke right?

The reply was quick and to the point.

Re: V-Day

	No, I want you.

'Who's sending me the emails?' Shinji wondered. As far as he knew, none of the girls in the class liked him. If he wasn't piloting the EVA, he figured most of his classmates wouldn't know that he was alive. He looked around again, trying to catch someone's gaze, but no one looked up.

'It couldn't be Asuka, could it?' he asked himself. Shinji had been entertaining some daydreams lately that if Asuka knew about, he would quickly be skinned, cooked, and served to Pen Pen.

"You've got mail!" the computer cheerfully reported.

"Geeeeaayyyaaaaa!" Shinji yipped, jumping a bit out of his seat.

"Ikari, is there something wrong?" the teacher asked, annoyed about being startled out of his musings.

"Uh No, sir, nothing's wrong," Shinji replied nervously.

"I see, next time, Ikari, if you want to get attention, raise you hand," the teacher continued, glaring at him.

"Yes, sir," Shinji said, sitting down.

"Now where was I?" the teacher asked, "I'll just start over again."

The class groaned, and many dirty looks were shot in Shinji's direction. But he didn't notice, because he was too busy reading his email.

Re: V-Day

	Will you?

'Who are you?' he typed back.

I told you, someone who desires you.

	'I mean, what's your name?'

	Are names so important, Ikari?

Shinji blinked, 'Yes,' he typed back, 'How will I know who you are?'

The reply was a bit in coming; finally it showed up.

	I see, I am Yui.

Shinji swallowed heavily, "Mother," he whispered. 'Is that you name?'

No, but you may call me that if you wish.

Shinji tried to get his thoughts in order; he put his hands to the computer in front of him just as the bell started to ring. He jerked a bit, then stood and bowed to Hikari's impatient commands. Right before he shut down his computer, he received one last email.

"This has been one of the weirdest days," Shinji muttered.

"Baka Shinji, what are you doing just standing there talking to yourself? Have you forgotten that we have tests today after school?" Asuka demanded standing over him, her eyes flashing.

"Uh, no, Asuka, it's just that" he trailed off, realizing just how silly it sounded.

"Don't give me that!" she snapped back, "Come on, Third Children, Wonder Girl is already ahead of us, and don't forget if we don't get back on time, Misato will remember that it's her turn to cook tonight."

"Urk!" Shinji replied and rapidly got to his feet, he was never quite sure what it was that Misato did to the cooking, but whatever it was he assumed that it would eat through an AT Field.

The two children took off to the entrance of NERV in silence, Asuka not coming down from her high perch to talk to Shinji. And Shinji was too busy thinking about that last email to even care.

His greeting to both Misato and Ritsuko were rather vague when they arrived. Misato raised an eyebrow and Ritsuko didn't notice, or even care.

"Tonight I'll need all three of you to get suited up and into the plugs. We're going to be using the EVAs tonight, not the simulation bodies," Ritsuko told them, her mind already on the tests that needed to be performed.

"Yeah, Ritsuko," Asuka replied in her usual flippant tone.

"Understood," Rei replied, in tone of voice that only Rei can do.

Ritsuko waited, and waited, finally she said with exasperation, "Shinji? Do you understand the instructions?"
	"Huh? Yes, Ritsuko, I'm sorry."

Ritsuko sighed, Shinji was the best pilot, and Unit-01 worked only for him, but

"Dismissed," Misato jumped in before Ritsuko could say anything.

As the Children walked away, Misato turned to her friend, "Man, I've never seen that look on Shinji before."

Ritsuko looked up from her clip board, "What look?"

Misato sighed, "Ritsuko, for someone who's running the tech department, sometimes you're not to bright."

"This is coming from someone who believed Kaji when he told her that hot dogs are actually made up of ground up dogs."

Misato scowled, "That was years ago, and as bad as they taste they might be."

Ritsuko gave a small chuckle, "You have a point. So what is with the great Shinji that I missed?"

"I don't know, he just has this really weird look on his face. It's like... like..."

"Like how you looked when I asked you out for the first time?" Kaji asked as he sauntered into view.

"What are you doing here?" Misato demanded.

"I was asked by Commander Ikari to monitor the tests for he as he will be out of town," Kaji answered with a grin. "The grown-up have fled leaving us children alone together."

"Aren't you ever serious about anything?" Misato asked with disgust in her voice.

"Not if I can help it fair one," Kaji replied.

Ritsuko tried really hard to not laugh at the expression on Misato's face. It looked like she had just eaten some of her own cooking, and tasted it.

"You were saying?" Ritsuko asked him.

"Well... I was saying that Shinji looks rather like Misato-chan here did when I first asked her out."

"Interesting, I wonder if he's actually found a girl friend," Ritsuko asked.
Alone in the male half of the locker room, Shinji sat on the bench. His thoughts were going over that last little line in the email. 'Love, Yui.'

'Love, I've never had someone tell me that,' he thought to himself. 'I wonder if she means it, or even who she is.'

"Ikari-kun?" a voice from the door inquired.

Shinji looked up, startled out of his thoughts, to see Rei. "Ayanami?"

"They are waiting for you," she told him and left.

Shinji sighed and got up; EVA tests took second seat to nothing, not even a young boy's heart.

"We are going to activate in a few seconds," Ritsuko spoke into her microphone.

From the EVAs came acknowledgments from the Children.

	"Ma'am?" Maya raised her voice.

	"Yes, Maya?" Ritsuko asked.

"The MAGI have gotten an email for Shinji, it's marked important. Do you want me to forward it to Unit-01?" she said.

"Email? Who's it from?" Misato asked.

Maya taped at her keyboard, "Can't tell. It's from someone in NERV, someone with higher security clearance than I have."

Ritsuko and Misato looked at each other and shrugged, "Go ahead and send it to him," Ritsuko said.

Inside the entry plug of Evangelion Unit-01, the EVA with an attitude, Shinji sat, waiting for the pattern that would tell him that activation of the EVA had started.

	'You've got mail!'

Shinji blinked, "They put that in the EVA?" he asked.

The vid-phone that he used for communication popped up. Instead of a face though, there was a text message.

"Shinji?" Ritsuko broke in; "We're starting the tests now."

The rainbow pattern flowed over the inside of the entry plug and once more Shinji felt the gentle touch of Unit-01 on his mind. It was always gentle at first, like a mother's caress. 'Or a lover's,' he thought suddenly.

Misato looked at the test cage, "Um, Ritsuko?"

	"Yes, Misato?"

"Is it just me, or is Unit-01 blushing?"

*Used in honor of Neon Genesis Evanjellydonut and a plea for the author to put out the next part*

February 14 came about like most days in Tokyo 3 do, nice, sunny and warm. In the eternal summer that was Earth's climate now, most of the children have only heard of snow and cold.

Shinji greeted the day in his usual way. Wake up, bathe, make breakfast and watch as his roommates devoured it. It wasn't that he wasn't curious about the days events, he was, it's not that he wasn't going to met the person who kept on sending him emails, he planned to. But Ikari Shinji is convinced that if everyone has a personal chance for happiness, he didn't make the list.

"So what have you got going on today, Shinji?" Misato asked around a mouthful of rice and beer.

"N- nothing, why do you ask?"

Misato sighed, "Shinji, haven't I already told you that if you keep acting like that you only draw attention to yourself?"

	"I'm sorry."

"Face it, Misato, the spineless wimp is either going to say nothing or apologize," Asuka commented.

"Now, Asuka, that isn't very fair to Shinji," Misato said.

"Oh come on, Misato, it's not like..."

Shinji quietly left while Misato and Asuka were having a talk about his shortcomings.

The walk to school was the same, the lecture the same as well. Shinji watched the clock, wondering if time really had slowed down today, or if it was just him. The final bell rang and Shinji stood and left, not responding to the questions of his friends, or Asuka's angry remark.

He left the building, and instead of going to the gate, chose to walk around the school grounds, trying to think.

	'Should I go? Shouldn't I?' he thought.

Finally, he came to the inescapable conclusion that if he wanted to go home, he did have to go through the gate. His EVA may be able to step over the school walls, he couldn't.

Shaking ever so slightly, Shinji approached the gate. Two figures were waiting there. The sun was behind them so he was having problems actually seeing who it was. Taking a deep breath, he walked up to them.

"Baka Shinji! Where have you been, I've been waiting for you!"

	"A-Asuka?" Shinji asked incredulously.

"Who else do you think it is baka?" the red head demanded.

Shinji continued to walk to the gate, "So you really did send those?" he asked.

"Send what?" Asuka asked, "I walk home with you, remember? Honestly, Shinji..." she said in exasperation.

"I... see," Shinji said slowly, disappointed. 'I should have known,' he thought to himself.

"Well come on, Third Children, I want to go home. And I bet Wonder Girl here does too," Asuka said.
	"Ayanami?" Shinji asked.

"Well duh, who do you think has been standing next to you."

Shinji turned and looked, and indeed, Rei was standing there silently with her hands behind her back.

	"Hello, Ayanami," he said.

The girl inclined her head, "Ikari-kun."

The two stood there for a second. Finally, Asuka blew some air through her lips, "Come on Shinji!" she said and started to walk.

Shinji shrugged, and started to follow her, then stopped as Rei laid a hand on his arm. "I need to ask you something."

Shinji turned and looked at her.

Blushing ever so slightly, Rei pulled her other hand out from behind her back. In it was a heart shape box. She leaned forward and whispered in Shinji's ear, "Will you accept my heart, will you be mine, will you be my Valentine?"

End.

C&C requested, the ending depends on how romantic you are, and this one is for my Valentine.
