I am curious as to how individual fanfic and original fiction writers on
this list approach the issue of racism and other forms of bigotry in
their writing. For example, racial issues play a major and rather
blatant role in my next work, Crap Shoot; as I'm trying to capture the
feel of the blaxploitation and pulp fic genre that Kenichi Sonada embraced
in his GSC series.
My personal view is that racism and bigotry are very real parts of our
society, and they are issues that writers can and should deal with when
appropiate in their work--honestly and without fear of censure from
their peers. However, since the idea of discussing racial issues is
in itself a touchy subject, I find that many authors shy away from
dealing with the topic openly or even dealing with it at all.
