I know you asked for private replies, but this could actually settle
the
blasted argument, so I'm posting it to the list as well.

There's a scene in the anime (from Ryouga's flashback of his attempts
to
find the vacant lot where he was to fight Ranma) that shows him having
no clue where he is and the Eiffel Tower in the background.... And, of
course, he did make it there, to lots of places in Japan, and back to
his starting point in four days. So much for a limited travel rate.
Are you sure that wasn't Tokyo Tower? If so, oh well. But consider
this: Ryoga's ended up in China before, so he could've just wandered
into Europe from there. The US, however, involves crossing a large body
of water hard for even Ryoga to notice. Then again, if he swam across
until he lost sight of the shore, he could be swimming around for days,
and likely end up on Hawaii...

Yes it's ridiculous. But, it's also apparently cannon. Other planets?

Remember, the whole series is ridiculous, with that in mind, many fanfic
mistakes don't seem that bad anymore...

I doubt it. But, without that scene, I would have doubted his ability
to cross oceans without knowing it, and agreed with the person saying
it's just a stupid fanfic legend.
