This is starting to turn into a ridiculous character debate. 
However....

Ummmm.... Despite all of Kuno's lack of intellegence, I think he would 
recognize Saitoh as a swordsman.  Of course, a much lesser swordsman 
then Kuno, which Tatewaki wouldn't hesitate to let Goro know.

At which point, Saitoh would trapse back to the Kamiya dojo, and offer 
everyone nice Tatewaki-kabobs....  Very tasty....  (Saitoh....  
Aoshi....  The only two Kenshin characters not to get Chibi..... Well, 
Saitoh does do that little eye thing.... ^_^)

  I'll put this bluntly: why is it so much of a given that Kuno would 
lose to any of the Kenshin characters? Simply because of the fact that 
Ranma doesn't have to raise an arm to beat him? 
  I'd like to point out that although Kuno is severely outclassed in 
terms of martial arts ability when compared to Ranma, Kuno IS the best 
at what he does in the Ranma universe-- swordfighting (undefeated Kendo 
champion; hint, hint). Yes, Kenshin is good, but he doesn't fight to 
kill (in general)-- Kuno would, if given the proper incentive (which 
isn't too hard for him; he'd love to kill Ranma, for instance).   A 
couple things one ought to consider before turning Kuno into paste in a 
x-over: 1) Kuno does come from a later time period, and is much more 
likely to know MORE about swordfighting than Kenshin. 2) Kenshin wins 
his fights partly on the fact he knows all the fighting styles there is; 
however, Kuno's style is quite unorthodoxed (Kuno school, which has no 
real set of rules)-- and is consequensely unpredictable. 3) Kuno doesn't 
need a REAL sword to do damage; although it would be a mistake to 
challenge Kenshin with a wooden sword, Kuno wouldn't in any way be 
handicapped (but then, neither would Kenshin, but that's not the point). 
  What WOULD be interesting is what happened if Kenshin DID lose to 
Kuno.
