You think that's odd?  Sometimes, I find my writing style is 
influenced by people I talk to before or after I start writing.
As far as making you a better writer, well... I doubt that
even if you were a telepath and could get into Clancy's head
that the sheer act of you knowing how he thinks could make
you a better writer.  Reading good writing helps you discover
the good writing within yourself.
