BTW, Ranma not paying for his meals is a fanfic convention with no

Dragon's Whisker story. Also the whole Shampoo incident started with Ranma
and Genma stealing the food at the Amazon village.
In both incidents, Ranma was on the verge starving. In the Dragon's
Whisker story, there's no evidence for him *not* paying for the food,
since it shows him, a frame or so later, at the DW-keeper's home. I
don't think the DW-keeper would be so willing to give help him out, even
going so far as to give him the Dragon Whisker as a seal for his hair,
if he considered Ranma a thief.
At Shampoo's village, Ranma didn't realize he was stealing the food, and
when he found out the truth, he came to the obvious conclusion that if
he won the tournament, the prize would be his and the debt would be
settled. His assumption was wrong, but his heart was in the right
place.
>From all appearances in the manga and the anime, Ranma *also* pays all
his debts to Nabiki. You think she would continue to lend him money if
he never paid up? Not bloody likely. He also pays his debts to Ukyo.
At the end of the "Gambling King" story line, Ranma worked as a waitress
at Ucchan's to pay off his IOU's.
