       Shortfic:
       What if the 'templates' for Jusenkyo curses exist only in the
accursed
person's head, and are 'created' at the moment of impact on the pool. 
There
is no pool of drowned anything, but the pools change you into whatever

in your head at the time of the dunking.  The guide would thus have 

been

some
poor soul who fell in thinking:  "Damm, there really should have been

kind of guide to warn people about this place!"  The tragic stories 

would

be
made on the spot, created by the guide as a result of his curse.  The
nature
of the waters would make cures potentially troublesome, as the person
attempting a cure would first have to become aware of the true nature 

of

the
springs, and then keep a very focused thought in mind as he attempts a
curative dunk, since any distractions could have unexpected side
effects...

without making the template idea seem too forced.

Well then, the following things would happen.

Tarou, given childish mentality would probably be thinking of his 
mother.  (Stew that around for awhile.)
Genma, given childish mentality would probably be thinking of his next 
meal.  (Stew that around for a while)
Ranma (if Genma turns into something that is still alive and manages to 
knock him into a pool) could turn into anything given the jumble his 
thoughts would be after seeing this happen to his father.  To make it 
interesting I'd suggest either Genma, "his pal Ucchan" (spring of 
drowned young *male* okonomiyaki chef), or his mother.
Shampoo would probably turn into either a wrinkled old crone (Cologne) 
Ranma's alter-ego, Ranma's male half, Mousse, or not change at all.
Mousse would probably turn into an 'augmented' version of Shampoo
Since Ryoga would fall into a spring while cursing Ranma's name... 
well... we won't go there... that's evil.
Rouge would probably turn into Tarou.

While it would certainly allow for even more confusion than the normal 
Ranma storyline (maybe) the question this raises in my mind is:  How 
would you explain the Musk Dynasty?

Idea 5:

       Tales of the Demon, Ryoga:=20
       A multifusion fantasy/horror universe, where Jusenkyo is a
cemetery of sorts.  It is a place where magical creatures come to die,
releasing part of themselves into the water.  Ranma and Genma happened 

to

be lucky enough to fall into pools where the cursed forms _seem_to_be_
relatively normal creatures, but Ryoga was not so lucky. =20

Status:  Working on it.   As to where it came from:  I've yet to see a

where the phrase "Thanks to you, I have seen Hell!" has been taken
literally.   If Ryoga had really seen some literal Hell, there was the
matter of why and how.  The why would be the curse, suitably altered 

(no

P-Chan here.)  As for the how, banishment to hell by a certain 

umpteenth

generation trained purple-haired mamono hunter came all too easily to
mind.   He would then need a guide back to the lands of the living, and

furinkan high, to exact his revenge on a certain martial artist...

I saw a fic that this reminds me of, where Ryoga got bitten by Happosai 
and started displaying certain... personality traits.
