Well, the most important aspect of fanfic writing is having as much
fun with it as possible.  After all, you're not getting paid for it.
While self-insertation is typical of some 'poorly' written fics,
I sincerely doubt your audience will crucify you...or avoid your
stories.

To the rest of you; if you haven't written a self-insert or a
Mary Sue, I suggest you try it sometimes.  It IS possible to
break the rules and still have fun.
