On the elder Gods/Great Old Ones concept: The idea of a human-
friendly
force was added by thosewho came after HPL. IMHO, the uttersmallness 
of
man in the face of the Old Ones fits better with the EVA. Up to you,
authors, but if Third impact inovlves hoary Nodens smiting Deep Ones, 
I'll
be as disappointed as I was for the original End of EVA.

 Well Nodens really isn't friendly with Humans. As for the Great Old 
Ones..They just don't care about
us. I am firmly in the opinion that while the GOO will be the end of 
humanity, it will be because humans
keep poking into things they shouldn't. There was a line in the 
CTHULUPUNK gamebook that
talked about 'Perhaps we'll just die out before they ever get around 
to noticing us. And that perhaps,
is the ultimate cosmic insult' and in the GREAT OLD ONES book 'The 
Old ones are not pulp style
villians. They are paitent, ageless,timeless. It is humanity, in it's 
imperfect understanding, that brings
us into contact'     Or something like that which sums it all up 
perfectly.
 The only race that can reasonably be considered an ally is The Great 
Race of Yith. And even they
exploit us.
