The following is in the FAQ:
* WHAT IS THE FANFIC MAILING LIST?
The fanfic mailing list (ML) is a forum for authors and fans to
discuss fanfics (fanfiction stories) with an anime/manga theme that
are posted to the ML.
Two words you want to note, here:
discuss: to exchange ideas and opinions back-and-forth.
forum: a group dialogue.
In other words, THAT'S WHY THE LIST IS HERE!
I'm sorry to get so heavy-handed about this, but really. I understand
that there are many folks who are here just as readers. For the
writers, though, this is a place that's actually fairly unique. Most
writers don't get the opportunity to actually reply to feedback, and
hear an answer to their responses.
Even if I am not actively participating in the discussion, I've often
found that longer threads can give me useful tips/insights that I can
apply to my own writing. And a story which I passed over, but that
generates a lot of discussion often gets a second look from me--and
usually results in more feedback to the author.
I agree that certain types of feedback might as well be private--I've
only posted those replies to "Bliss" that I thought might actually have
some comment that other writers might be interested in, even though I
sent an individual reply to the authors on every chapter.
Likewise, replies to the inevitable info requests or SPAM threads can
probably be sent privately. [looks, realizes he's about to violate this
rule, shrugs]
