As demonstrated in earlier posts, the multiple fiancees thing is more than
a 'fanfic cliche'. As such, I called you on it, in much the same way you
called on her mistakes. It's one thing to call something overused; it's
another to imply that something has no backing in continuity. I can't
challenge your 'overused' argument, nor do I care to. For one, I agree
with it to an extent; for another, it is a matter of pure opinion. The
lack of backing, on the other hand, was another matter entirely.

Look, we can argue the definition of "cliche" until the cows come home.
The point, for me, is that this thing FELT cliched to me as I read the
fic. I tried to explain why I felt that way, but ultimately what I'm
doing is reporting my reaction to the fic. You can quibble with my
reasoning, but you can't invalidate the way in which I experienced the
story.

Now, others' reactions might vary. It might be that no one else had a
problem with this. I don't think so, but if true, that's fine. The kami
in their infinite wisdom have given us the ability to have our fics read
and commented on by more than one person. Anything I say is the reaction
of one individual. Take it for what it's worth -- no more, no less, and
feel free to post your own reaction if it differs from mine, or even if
it doesn't.

BTW, Deedo, no, I didn't comment on your story; rather, I commented on his
critique to your story. I hope to do that in private e-mail later tonight.

Good; I'm glad to hear that; because C&C on fanfics seems to me to be a
much more worthwhile activity than C&C on C&C.
