Well, that MIGHT be because he seems to be nicer to others and not to
her. Or maybe that she's jealous... 
Oh ! You meant he's nicer to HER ? Then, maybe, you should say it, like
"and lately he's been trying to be nicer to/with her..." (I'm not sure
about the english, sorry) But then again, you should really try to find
a GOOD reason why she's mas at him. Maybe she thinks he makes fun of her

He had been thinking about a lot of things laying in the park. All the
misunderstandings, the fiancees, his enemies, his mother and all the
troubles that had been plaguing his life lately. The outcome of all
those reflections were bad for his self-image.

I *think* "laying" is wrong, but I'm not 100% sure of the correct form.

Well, I don't know for sure either : I've looked into my dictionnary,
and it seems to be the right form. But it DOES sound weird.

Okay, I'll stop plaguing other's C&C and make one of my own next time
