Akane dies?  That is a possibility that is used in A Duet of Pigtails 

  I must say, however, that killing-off a character is much too easy and 
convenient. I wouldn't be the only one who would appreciate a much 
better runaround than that.

  If you're talking about the cart, yes. However, that was not the only 
thing; remember, taking the cart was effectively sealing a promise of 
betrothal. Genma agreed to the betrothal, then ran off with the cart; no 
matter what Ranma does he's still obligated to marry Ukyo as well (even 
if he doesn't want to). Genma knows this, too (and, AFAIK, Nodoka 
doesn't know about it; now THAT is a fanfic idea).
