You know, I really don't like those tildes. Just my opinion, but
I think it would be a lot more effective if they were just plain
paragraphs, set away from other prose as new paragraphs. Just

I think they are fine. Use of the tildes, asterisks, underscores, etc
help to convey that the author wants us to think that the speech is not...
normal. It may be telepathic; it may be a resonating voice; it may be any
number of wierdness.
I've always been against it. *shrug* I mean, some fics are, IMHO,
rather obnoxious with this, i.e. asterisks for CHinese, backslashes
for thoughts, etc. I think that one cannot merely survive through
lack of usage of these extraneous symbols, but thrive in the conveying
of the story because of it! MHO, of course.
