   Fanfiction has rarely stepped on toes. It's rare to have a fanfic put
down from copyrights infringements. It would cost the companies more time and
money to stop it that it would be better to let is go and get publicity.

I haven't heard of anyone trying to stop Robotech fanfics, even though the
novelizations and original storyline books have been in publication, by Del
Rey with western authors yet, for years.  

I also have not heard about Paramount trying to put a stop to Star Trek
fanfics either, and there are real horror stories out there about how they
try to protect that franchise. Ever wonder why the Trek novels don't have
stories that focus on original characters, with the Enterprise crew being
supporting characters, any more? Paramount put a stop to it -- all
published Trek books must meet Paramount's very strict guidelines now.
(I'm just glad "The Final Reflection" was published well *before* all that
nonsense began).
