Does anyone have four or five US cartoon shows that they consider to 

be an American Anime, or as close as we can get over here?<<

If you could include comics in the selection as well, I'd be tempted to 
say anything related to The Sandman (DC/Vertigo). That would include 
Hellblazer, The Books of Magic, The Dreaming, The Legend of the Swamp 
Thing, and several others.

I believe Spawn and related titles might fit under the description as 
well. (note: Spawn the animated series. The movie sucked.) And while I'm 
on the topic, there's a new manga series in Japan called Shadows of 
Spawn. It's based on the original series, but it promises to be - well? 
- more toned down to say the least.
