Music Box Angel

Story:9
Music Box Angel is at its core a love story, and Matt has made sure to
include enough surrounding comedy and drama to keep it from being one-sided.
Marie, Hiroshi's android recreation of his seemingly uncatchable crush,
Mari, begins hearing a voice in her head that grows into a serious problem
for her very existence. The story delves into the story behind Hiroshi's
first childhood love even as he works to save Marie and take the first few
tentative steps of starting a real relationship with Mari. The pretty
heavily placed comical content near the beginning and into the middle was
perfect to keep the story full and alive until I had a chance to get to know
the characters, and it seemed that the most dramatic and meaningful scenes
knew right when to kick in. Matt also pulled some great tricks involving
deja-vu that made a nice addition to his arsenal
Drama:9
None of the dramatic material was of the immediate, life or death kind, but
it was nonetheless present. The title of the fanfic, Music Box Angel, is
soooo appropriate, but I'll leave it to the readers to find out why. It's a
nice, sad-but-romantic connection that I liked.
Originality:10
A lot of these neat little plot devices were new to me. Kudos to Matt.
His Teknobabble was pretty good too.
Realism: Cut, no need to gauge the realism of any physical feats.
Humor: However, is a different story. TEN. 1010101010
The comical content of this story is what really kept me anchored in and
interested while I had time to get to know the characters, and it did a damn
good job. 6 more hours of sleep....
Characterizations:9
I'm not the judge of whether or not these characters matched the anime but
they were fun to read and full of life.
Grammar:10
Wondrific. I found minor errors that were missed in editing, but
everything I found was a simple fix and not some kind of disagreement over
the actual composition of the prose.
Descriptions:9
Oooooh some parts of Music Box Angel really shined in this area. Dream
scenes especially.
Overall:9
A great read, and recommended. Music Box Angel offers comedy, drama, and
romance in a great whirlwind of anime-slapstick destruction.
Averaged score: 9 1/3
Great fanfiction.
