I disagree.  I think your pro-Akane bias is, well, biasing you.

Usually the purpose of a scene like that in a story where something
unexpected happens is to show that things were normal and everyday up until
the unexpected event happened.  Cliches in this context are perfectly valid.

Unless they're overused ones like this one, which is the problem in this
case. While I seem to be one of the rare ones who actually like the
majority of the bet stuff, Metroanime's consistent portrayal of Akane's
darker side is getting remarkably annoying. I'd really like to see a
moderation of this. Perhaps some other method of clobbering Ranma just this
once?
