If the holodeck created a generator to power itself, it just created the
first perputual motion machine.  Think about it.  Nothing in the
holodeck has existence outside of the holodeck, but the energy generated
by the machine must be used to run it.  The field would have to
encompass all of its components.  Thus, when the generator needs more
fuel, the holodeck uses the energy being generated by a hologram to
create fuel to run itself.  It would never run out of fuel.

Absolutely correct and spare parts can be made for any
repairs. This could theoretically outlast the universe in
which it was made.
