The funny thing is that it was an essay in a similar vein which
Mike wrote almost exactly a year ago that first gave me the idea
to write this essay.  It was, IIRC, about the pitfalls in creating
a new character for a fanfic.  Alas, I don't have a copy anymore -
Mike, do you think you could dig out a copy from somewhere and
email it to me?
