Ever read "Ender's Game"?
For those of you who don't know, the story was about the military putting a
boy (their best military genius) through a simulator and called it
'training'. It was only after the last 'exam' that he was told he had
completly exterminated the enemy to the last.
As to lasers having recoil, it's light, too light. It comes from photon
pressure. This is what makes the ejecta of a comet stream out behind it like
a tail. Only tiny particles not more than a few micrometers across are
affected.
Any of you familiar with the idea of the lightsail? A variation is to use a
multiterrawatt solar-powered laser to push lightsail equiped ship. Even with
such a powerful system, the lightsail needs to be many km across and only a
few atoms thick to be 'pushed' by the beam.
That shoulg give an impression of how light the recoil would be.
