Just sending this to the list, as per Daniel's request

Well, alright... since you asked... Laser/chi/energy
weapons,
in space, 1)
making sounds that are audible by OTHER
chips/crafts/charecters and
2) lasers specific, having recoil.
The photon discharge produced by such weapons and
attacks
are actually strobed millions of times per seconds. This
strobe
effect produces a mild effect similar to the effect of a
normal
strobe light on an epileptic. However, rather than
generating a
neural seizure, it causes a temporary crossover between
optical
and audio nerves, causing a subconscious interpretation of
the
optical messages recieved, even if reflected off a surface,
as
an audible noise.
As for the effect of a laser weapon having a recoil, the
answer is simple. Most weapons referred to as 'lasers' are
actually some other means of generating a coherent photon
beam.
Most of these that are true lasers have no recoil, but have
enourmous energy requirements, so great as to render a laser
capable of inflicting bodily harm on a human, extremely
massive, on the order of 70 kilograms. On the other hand, if
the photons are actually fired by means such as a miniature
supercollider, the primary effect is more along the lines
of a
solid photon beam, generating not only recoil, but also a
concussive impact when the beam hits its target.
