But for those of you who don't use your real name, why do ya?

I like to use my real name and a fake one.  When I first started
reading this list, I saw people using sig characters (similar to the MST
characters that some people now use) and I liked the idea.  So when I
finally wrote something, I grabbed the name from a MUD character (an
elven cleric) that I played several years ago.

That's the why I use a fake name, but if you want to know why I use 'Pi'
it gets complicated because I don't know exactly where the origins are.
I picked the name as a mud character because I was once interested in
memorizing the number pi (I only got to 27 decimal places before I lost
interest).  Why was I memorizing the number pi, though?  Because a
friend of mine was and we had both memorized the poem 'Jaberwocky.'  And
that had something to do with _Lord of the Rings_ (which brings me back
to elves, oddly enough).  After that, my memory gets really vague.  :)
