Yes, but Tofu did not have a crush on her. It was brought to my attention
that she only beat and hated boys who were attracted to her.

Wrong.  Think of Ryoga.  Rather than beating him up, she is blind
(intentionally or not) to his obvious attraction to her.  

Akane only beat and hated the boys who attacked her on a daily basis
because of Kuno's stupid challenge.  She might have had normal fluttery
teenage girl feelings for boys before that incident made her so angry. 
In fact, her romantic desire to "wear a pretty dress and play Juliet"
(rather than Romeo) shows that she likes the idea of real romance. 
Heck, I'm 100% heterosexual woman, and *I* would hate any guy who tried
to force themselves on me in such a manner - and if I had Akane's
martial arts skill and strength, I'd pound them as well.

And, of course, she hits Ranma every now and then, but it is my strong
impression that she whacks him *because* she has feelings for him that
frighten her, and because he's often a jerk.
