I would have do disagree with you here, Alpha.  First, this DOES seem to be a
direct take on the highlander concept, and that the Senshi could only be
killed by taking off their heads, which we never see happen in the series.
Nothing is stated here that the senshi are fighting each other, or that only
the Senshi could kill each other.

Rather, It seemed to me that what happened here was that the Senshi were
informed that they were highlander type immortals, and must now join in the
great game all imortals played.  Given the future, however, one would assume
that the Senshi would fight as a group against their other immortal foes, five
acting as one until they alone remained.  Perhaps the time when the only
Immortals remaining were the Senshi had not yet come to pass by the time the
crystal Tokyo era came about, so they would not have to fight amounst
themselves to determine who would be "the One" yet.

Now, some words AGAINST this fic.  Mainly, even for a first effort, its to
darn short.  No plot exposition really occurs, nor do we see any sort of
charecterization occur.  This shortfic consists of only two scenes.. and IMO
is more of the germ of a longer fic than a stand alone piece in and of itself.
Questions are raised that are never answered, all this taking place 'Off
screen', when it needs to happen 'On screen' to better explain what is
happening here.

This blending with the Highlander mythos also raises the thorny problem of the
fact that "there can be only one".  Even if they work as a team at first, in
the end if they defeat all the other immortals, they must then fight amongst
themselves to determine who will be the final one.  And that is not a good
thing, and would tend to be something diametricaly opposed to everything the
scouts have learned over the course of the series.

Does it have problems?  Yes.  Does it have promise?  Also yes.  Would I
attempt something like this myself?  No, because I would consider the problems
with this sort of premise to far outweigh the promise contained within the
storyline.
