If there should be a comma in this sentence AT ALL, it should be after
"slept".

Well, maybe I should have gone right out and said that this was a work
of poetic-prose (or prose-poetry...your choice.)  I thought stating
so right off the bat would be detrimental to how well it would be
recieved...

Amazing...I've gotten more responses on this comma than on the
work itself...I don't know whether to be happy or disappointed.
