Ranma would be better motivated if you point the finger more clearly
at Kuno as the source for the attempts on his life.  

Ranma has good reason to hate Kunou, more of which will be show in chapter
3.
 

Usagi's motivation really doesn't make sense, unless her idealism is 
phony.  After all, Ranma isn't dead, so Kuno didn't kill him, so what's
her beef now?  

Well, besides Kunou usurping the throne and her belief that he tried to
kill Ranma...
 

So, Ranko went for years without a hot shower or bath?  How does that 
work?  

Until she walked the Pattern, she was locked in girl form.  For reasons
which will be explained later.
 

I don't have a lot of sympathy for Usagi or Ranma.  Kuno's obviously
the better king candidate.

While one might hope for one's protagonists to always make the right
choices, sometimes they start out by screwing up.
