Can you think of anyone who better fits the role?
I don't think that role should ever be necessary, if one has
*respect* for characters. Of course, I forgot who I'm talking to.
The role of Pluto as deus ex machina is a product of intellectual and
emotional laziness. If one gets tired of all the plotting required for a
story, then one has an easy escape route. I don't think that was the case
with this story, since the subject was never even brooched.
The perception of respect for characters is equivalent to the perception of
fan dedication. As someone who obviously shows far less respect than you,
I am therefore less of an anime fan. I bow my head in respect to one
greater than me.
