<snip>
I even love Sailor Moon fiction (not that there's
anything wrong with SM... I just get a lot of flak here at home for
liking it :P
Yeah, me too. ^w^
All I had was a hope and a wish... that I could possibly enjoy
works of fanfiction based upon some of the other characters that I know
and love.
Yeah, but here's the big thing. Ranma and Sailor Moon are so popular
that for a very many future otaku, it's the first thing that gets them
interested in anime! <WARNING: SHAMELESS PLUG> My first work almost out
of pre-production is Ranma Nibun no Usugurami. And the Fic I have lined
up next, Sailor Moon D! I just wirte what I want.

What I think you have to see is that most of us, who are out there
writing FanFiction, write it for one reason. We're not confident enough
in ourselves yet to come up with original plots. So, we use FanFiction
as a testing ground to strenghten our prose before we go out and write
to publish. (I certainly see Lawson or Biles getting a book deal, don't
you? Or, for that matter, do they?) So we turn to wherever there a whole
heap of source material, and Ranma, Sailor Moon, and other have all
that! Myself, I would like to see someone write a Fic based on You're
Under Arrest! but there's not enough to work on. Four OAVs and one Dark
Horse Publication. Until they import more of that, the characters in the
Fics we base on them are two-dimensional. Another, I'm writing RNU
because *it's my first time* and I want to feel confident about my
writing. I'm sorry if that doesn't meet your standards but I *am* also
writing for myself. And isn't *that* is why this list exists? To have
people post what they *want*, without having to worry about some elitist
trying to dictate what they *should*? No "market factors" exist in
cyberspace, and no one *has* to listen to anyone else.
I'm glad you expresed your opinion, that's why we're here. But, please,
don't try to stifle creativity in others, especially first-timers, lest
they become zero-timers.
Thank you.
