Been a while since I've used this sucker...
*Gets up on it*
The reason I say "Heck, no!" to this, is because *everything* gets
crossed with Ranma. People sit down, watch a great new anime, and the
first thing that comes to mind is, "Hey, this would be great if Ranma
were in it!" No! No it wouldn't! Saber Marionette is perfect on its
lonesome. The characters are wonderful, and if you want to write a
fanfic, use them. There is a serious lack of SMJ fanfiction out there.
Now, I don't have anything against Ranma crossovers (doing one myself as
I speak)... but geez... little overboard maybe? Lastly, I am not aiming
this at you Motoko Chan... you just happened to be the one to post the
straw that broke the camel's back. The history of fanfiction has shown
that any given anime will be crossed with Ranma... and most likely
Sailor Moon... perhaps Tenchi, UY, DragonBall, or BGC... it's as if
there is no other anime out there. Plenty has been released in America!
A handful of people have written about Nuku Nuku... it's a wonderful
series with *so* much room for expansion. There's TTS Airbats...
It is a myth to think that series with few released episodes have more
room for "expansion" than series with many available episodes. The more
episodes released, the more alternatives available to the fanfic author,
because the more exploitable plot hooks are available to be exploited, and
the more characters lie around to be developed.
This is why small series generally end up crossed over with the larger
and better established series. It gives you something to work with.
If we wanted to write mostly original stuff...we wouldn't write fanfiction.
there's Ushio & Tora... there's Armitage III. They are all wonderful,
and never receive any fanfic time as far as I know (if anyone reading
this knows of a place that has fics from these series', please send a
URL).
This has been ranted about before, and I just think a little reminder is
due. No offense intended, and I certainly don't want to see Ranma fics
vanish. I'd be a hypocrite in that case. Just saying, "Broaden your
horizons."
Thank you for your time.
But hey, you want Nuku-Nuku? Here's some Nuku-Nuku.
Hmm...
Kyusaku Natsume looked up at his mother in her position atop
the GOLEM and raged, "Your cooking was getting better! I was
so happy with all of us back together again! Why did you have
to spoil it? I hate it when you act like this. I hate it!"
She looked down at the blurry form of her son and his felinoid
bodyguard, distorted by a veil of salt water. "You were happy?
Did...did it bother you at all that I...wasn't?"
"Why can't you be happy just being like everyone else's mom?"
A cold feeling washed over her, and she blinked, clearing
her vision. She looked at Nuku-Nuku. The catgirl was
obviously distressed, unable to figure out what to do, now that
her attempt to fix their family had gone so wrong. "It's not
your fault." [Name] assured the girl. "You did everything you
could. I should have known better than to try to negotiate from
a position of weakness."
"I could ask him to not be so mean," Nuku-Nuku offered.
"No." The word had all the authority of a corporate C.E.O.
behind it. "No more. It's over. If I'm not the mother
my Ryunosuke needs...then I'll let go of him."
"M-mom? Wait, I don't want you to-"
"I will not be used! Or ignored, or forced to act like
someone I don't know and wouldn't respect!"
The door slammed open as Kyusaku charged in with a
rediculously large gun in hand. "Quick, Nuku-Nuku,
take this! It's designed specially for your use."
Nuku-Nuku looked at it dubiously. "I don't want to do any
more mean things to Mama-san."
"Oh stop it, 'Anata'," Akiko wearily ordered. "It's over.
I give up. I'll start divorce proceedings immediately,
and in return for you renouncing any claim on Mishima
Heavy Industries, I'll agree to refrain from disputing
custody, or the ownership of Nuku-Nuku's body. Satisfied?"
He was speechless.
The next day, the three of them were gone.
Her father came to her as she looked out the window, down
the driveway. She'd avoided seeing or talking to any of them
until they were on their way, but she couldn't help looking
after them as they left.
His chair wheeled up beside her and he reached for her hand.
"I'm sorry, Akiko-chan. I know you have to be in a lot of
pain. For what it's worth, I think no sensible woman would
have endured the kind of abuse you did, this month."
"Oh, it wasn't all bad," Akiko confessed, her hand gently
caressing her stomach. "Still, it's better we avoid any more
custody disputes. Are you still interested in an alliance
with Daitokuji?"
