With all due respect to Matthew Lewis, I think that there is an
obvious answer to the implied question of his point and counterpoint as
to which path Ranma should follow. It is obvious that he is a student of
anything Goes martial Arts and therefore must follow his school's style.
In choosimg to follow his school he must therefore take Cologne as his
only master. My point being that Ranma's truest passion is the martial
arts as Genma's is stealing. When else is he the most happy but when he
uses the art. Whether it is cooking or tea ceremony if it involves
martial arts he will work at it. It would seem his greatest desire is to
learn martial arts and nothing else. In ideal there is no way for
Cologne to win her conflict for Ranma will fulfill his style by studying
under her choosing her because she will further him most. The truth of
Ranma's martial arts is that he has no set style. He adapts everything
to his own uses i.e. such as revising the shi-shi hokodan into the mouko
takabisha. No matter what Cologne teaches Ranma he will learn it and
adapt it to his situations and so his own style. Another fact of this
reasoning is that Ranma would in a sense control the master of control,
Cologne and flaunt his freedom at the master of freedom, Happosai.
Reality is questionable enough as it is,
Sean
