I've got this fanfic idea brewing around in my mind for about a week now, but
I didn't get around to writing until now. This idea was partially inspired by
LeVar Bouyer (who had vanished from FFML, sadly enough...)'s idea for SM
fanfic, so here goes:

A Japanese deity (possibly Shingo or something- I can't quite recall) who's a
trickster and loves to play pranks on Humans, is EXTREMELY bored. He decides
to pay a visit to Nabiki Tendo, and challenges her to a game of chess. Nabiki
reluctantly agrees (after some peruasion, of course) and plays the game
despite her lack of experience with chess. However, to her horror, the deity
had nonchlantly "forgotten to mention" that for each of Nabiki's piece
captured, a portion of Nermia vanishes forever. (name any disaster event; a
flood, earthquake, volcoancosim, dropping of a space station on the region
(grin), etc.)

In this game, it is a challenge between a trickster who will do anything to
win, even to the point of cheating, and Nabiki who has to use every iota of
her brains and abilities to bluff her way though the game. Regardless of the
outcome, the problem is that there are bound to be some losses for Nabiki. She
has to win by losing the FEWEST pieces possible.

While I'm not generally a fan of Nabiki, this will put Nabiki in the spotlight
as the main character, and finally be responsible for her actions. This way,
we can see who Nabiki really is: a cold and selfish bastard who wants nothing
excpet money; or a being who has been out of contact with her soul and her
closest relatives (what's it REALLY like to have her friends in danger?); and
many more alternatives. There's many possible turnabouts here.

I wonder if anybody's intersted in taking up on this theme- I'm not pursing
this matter any further. I just had to get this out of my mind.
