My mail server seems to handle it okay, but then again, those that don't,
I'll probably never see anyways.

b) Formatting. I saw the files that were sent as
attachments, and they opened up as ugly
   garbled text.

Not so much with this list in particular, but I've noticed that messages
that do arrive as attachments have a tendency to be attached WinXXX files
or HTML documents. While reading mail under a windows client/web browser
isn't a problem, under a text-only environment, it takes a few extra steps
that sometimes is one step too many. ^_^;;

   Learn these two steps:
   - SAVE AS -
then when the window pops up, be sure to save your work
   as...
   - TEXT ONLY WITH LINE BREAKS -

I think that if attachments are made with certain programs, the document
might be encoded differently, regardless of whether it was saved as text
or not.

Nothing too hard about it. At the very least, you'll get
more of an audience than chucking it off as Micro$oft Word
  format.

True enough. :)

Oh well, back to lurking. Just my two cents into the pot.

Personally, I don't mind the posts being in strange un-readable or not
easily readable formats. If it comes down to it, sometimes, I just won't
bother. ^_^;; Firing up lynx or netscape to read some mail seems like
overkill.
