Title: Patlabor: Personal Files, Episode 01
Series: Patlabor
[snip]
This one tries to put a more human and emotional face to characters
in a series that is (to my limited knowledge) more comedic and
"blow 'em up" in style. I get the feeling there's depth to some
characters the author portrays that isn't part of the regular story
I would disagree. Patlabor is good because it mixes comedy, action, and
character development in equal degrees. Indeed, the movies are especially
non comedy oriented, especially the second one, which is rather
depressing, really. But the series over all makes quite an effort to get
inside the characters heads as well as make you laugh and show action,
both in the TV series and the OAV series. Such stories as the one where
Asuma goes to his class reunions and meet someone who may be a ghost
revolve around character rather than laughs or action. Some episodes are
action oriented and others are very comic (like the TV show hostage
episode), but it has some powerful serious moments as well.
