True, but Lashi is caught in a trap of her own. Grandmother pointed it
out in the line that the title comes from. She's rejected one set of
dogma, only to accept another one.

  The author's ability to take newly created characters and integrate
  them seamlessly into the series is at its best here, giving them 
  life, humanity and intelligence and letting us see it from inside 
  their heads.

Thanks. Something I've tried to do in many of my fics is to introduce
new characters that are interesting but don't steal the show away from
the regulars (or the Ranmaverse).

 My only questioning about this story was why Ke Lashi 
  didn't kill Shan Pu when she was in the cage; I'm not anti-Shampoo, 
  but emotionally it would have made more sense to me for that to 
  happen in this story.  

Eep! That's a rather extreme view of her character. Why do you think
she'd do that?

  Also, I like the author's sense of humour: unless it comes from 
  France, you have to call it "sparkling white wine"; since Shan Pu's 
  father is Chinese, Peine can't be called by his full name. ^_^

Heh. Undortunately, I wasn't able to fit in a line about Peine getting
upset and "blowing his cork." Maybe in HaM.... :-)
