Hmm.

I like the way this story is written. Very nice, a good insight into what
Hitomi's feeling and why she wants to go back.

The problem I have, however is... why did she leave in the first place?

It's a slight weakness at the end of the anime: Hitomi and Van appear to
have discovered that they love each other very much. They celebrate by
sending Hitomi home. Hitomi appears to *want* to go home, and Van doesn't
appear to be trying to talk her out of it.

So if they loved each other so much, why did they separate?

Who says love is enough? There are other concerns; Van and Hitomi are not
the only two in existence.
Hitomi had to think about everyone she left on earth, her friends,
her family.... At the very least she had to let them know she was okay.
Contrary to what we might like to believe, love alone is not the ultimate
solution, not the only consideration, and even if it were, what of her
love for her parents, her friends and school-mates, who are surely worrying
about her and wondering what happened.
Now, if one comes from this viewpoint, then nothing needs to be
explained, she went back for the people she left behind, and even at the end
of Escaflowne, it does appear that it need not be forever.
What Carly has done is say that it wasn't necessarily forever, that
perhaps Hitomi came back to put her affairs in order and perhaps to say
goodbye....

	I quite enjoyed it, myself....

It's important that question be answered, because we need to know what's
changed that makes Hitomi want to go back now.

That is, if you even think that there is a question to be answered....
I never saw it as a problem, myself, but then I'm like that....
