sorry, i left two peoples favorites off, have added them.
NOTES & VOTES ON THE BET:
"Catscratch fever" and "Addicted" will be taken over
by Gamers@pacbell.net
"King Of Fighters", "The Art", "Dragon's Destiny" will all be
taken over by Dragonbard@hotmail.com
you don't need to vote on these as someone else will be
handling these fictions.
i've been told there's something weird with the
AOL clip-and-paste e-mailing of these stories. if you see
"" posted in one of these stories then we've got another
case of the mysterious vanishing paragraphs. as of yet i still
have no idea what is causing this.
asterisks mark a story taken over by others, but is
listed for further errata/add ons that i came up with after the
fic was posted. the new wordsmith can add/decline these ideas
if they so choose.
Final votes on what to make a continued series:

adds to the Bet, suggested directions, etc:
The Art:*
Amazon tribes are were-felines, which fits all
the cat references in the orig series. Use Gold Digger
style lycanthropes. Shampoo would work best as a
mountain cat, I think.
Bet Too Far, Track One:
Akane had access to Ranma's spellbook for
how long? Since magic got them all into this fix, then it
should get them out again, right? It's just like following
a recipe in a cookbook, it'll be easy! (cue thunder)
Kasumi the mage? Weirder fics have happened!
However, when Gosunkugi gets the copy of the love potion
recipe from Akane's notebook...this could get bad.
Bet Too Far, Track Two:
Ranma's wish had him vanish and amnesiac.
His skills, talents, and ability to learn quickly (since he's
largely a blank slate he's picking up other talents) put
him on a completely different track...in Las Vegas. No,
he doesn't speak Japanese. Fluent English, though, and
Ranko has just gotten a recording contract...
Cat-Scratch Fever:*
was written fully intended as a
Ranma+Kasumi and/or Shampoo (i don't think i've
seen this combo). Big stumbling block for a Kasumi+
Ranma relationship is that Kasumi sees "T-chan" as
a pet on an emotional level even if she knows in an
intellectual sense that it is still Ranma.
Children Of An Alien God:
add that Kodai was reborn due to the
intervention of Tsunami. Kodai, a knight-in-training,
becomes one of the major focus characters as he
follows the new Prince in their attempt to protect
themselves against Kagato's return.
Will Kodai manage to have a happier
ending this time around?
Christmas Cake:
expanding the letters and focussing on
some of the other events. After the marriage to
"Ri-chan" letters are exchanged between Nabiki
and the folks back home. Yes, I did want to write
an Ukyou-gets-Konatsu specifically for Ms
Kuonji. (i'm shameless, i know). This would
be more detailed out.
Civil War:
Yes, it was planned that the amazon
Scarlet (Akane) fights Ranma and is defeated and
eventually comes to stop trying to kill him and
marry him instead, the scene was going to be just
incredibly WAFFy, and be a turning point in
Scarlet's life as she decides just where her loyalties
and inner nature lies. No, I was not planning on
a Akane gets Ranma fic. This would have been
interesting in that Ukyou was a legitimate fiancee
from the start, Kasumi and Shampoo (big sis! little
sister!) competing/cooperating for Ranma against
the other suitors, a Nabiki-Ranma relationship
that had Nabiki waffling in a Ryouga fashion, and
a couple of disasters (such as the school counselor)
waiting to happen in the sidelines.
Crippled:
this one got large amounts of support,
and a lot of people really hated it as well. Ranma,
permanently crippled, bitter, and gradually struggling
to regain both his mind and then his sanity from the
amount of angst and depression he's hit with. There
was a very good chance of him ending up with a
non-canonical relationship, which seemed to be the
thrust of most of the critiques.
Demon from Japan:
evil Happosai's magic cannot affect the
pure of heart or the truly repentant. The Ranma of
this timeline is not, alas, either. He's had to do some
things he's not proud of to survive.
Meanwhile, what of that love potion?
Does Akane's curse require Lanocaine by the tubful?
Will Nabiki embrace the darkness, or will she decide
that some prices are too high?
Doll, The:
Gamers@pacbell.net figured out one of
my little sneakies here. By the time everyone gets
to Jusenkyo, it's no longer flooded. When Akane
finally arrives, she falls/is pushed into: Spring Of
Drowned Girl. Then, whenever she's splashed with
hot water, she reverts to normal size (doll). When
splashed with cold water, she expands to the size
she had before becoming a doll. Now if someone
could just find Ranma and tell him...
Early Warning:
Ryouga-still after Ranma for the bread.
Ready to hurt Akane for cursing him. Ukyou WILL
show up. Akane doesn't need to prove anything,
doesn't resent Ranma, and is quite a bit more laid
back. Also: she, Nabiki, and Kasumi are all much
better martial artists than in the original series. Just
don't ask 'em to coordinate attacks. In EW, the three
Tendo daughters are much less likely to be background
characters, they are quite capable of getting into the
thick of things. (It's just Kasumi will be very polite and
demure about it, Nabiki will be looting the bodies, and
Akane will be unhappy about the amount of time this
is taking out of her schedule.)
Featherbrite's Tale:
Featherbrite can only access the Faerie
Realm in specific locations. Faerie circles mainly, though
some other natural areas can also bridge the worlds.
So when Ranma & Crew go adventuring,
they have to get back to the same place they entered
the world from. This may not be easy for a number of
reasons.
Grand Tour:
Akane trying to cope with being in a fantasy
realm. Frostbite trying to cope with being Akane until the
real Akane gets back. Ranma & Co trying to cope with
mundane real life and an infestation of otherworldly Things.
Happosai's Big Adventure:
Happosai is meddling with technology that
eventually destroyed the future he found it in. Ranma's
off to the future to find countermeasures. The first problem
is that the broken mirror is accessing different futures when
different people use it. Will Ranma find a way to beat Happi
when he returns to a world remade in the image of Happosai's
perverted dreams?
Heir Today:
Adding a shy Ranma, particularly if he's
getting consumed by guilt. After all, Nabiki is hardly
acting in her right mind, right? Of course, it could all
be revealed later that she spit the pill up later.
Illegal Aliens in Nerima:
Ranma & others in a spaceship that is
registered under Leader Idow's name? So they're
being chased by the Galaxy Police, bounty hunters,
a certain space pirate, and numerous others.
Their first stop is a rocky planet that
resembles a portion of the California desert. Meanwhile,
Nabiki contemplates eating Akane's cooking on a
regular basis.
Juuban based fics: (Little Orphan Kasumi, Civil War, etc)
character: school counselor Hitomi Settoku,
a psychologist who should be committed. Hates guys,
sees Ranma as a girl and vows to liberate her from the
domination of her male side. Uses drugs, hypnosis, and
a number of other attacks. Likes to wear formal business
clothing. Special Attack: Drug darts
Kimiko's Legacy:
Kuno Tatewaki, accept that a woman could
beat him in the Art of the Sword? Never! Four Tendo
daughters are all facing the same sort of thing that Akane
does in the orig series. Nabiki doesn't, and on one
level that really irks her. "Hey, what am I, chopped liver?"
King Of Fighters:
Ranma's backpack contains some interesting
items, not the least of which is his bio-armor from the
Arena. Gauntlets, leggings, breastplate, partial helm,
all of which transform with him when he changes to his
cursed form. The armor is a power enhancement that
brought his ability to withstand and channel forces to
a level where he could take on tougher opponents.
Without it, he's still powerful, about the level of Krillyn
from Dball Z or so. With it...
Doesn't work for anyone else, adapted to him specifically,
though he can order it to protect someone else.
Little Orphan Kasumi:
Kasumi pursues Ranma much like Ukyou
does in the orig series. Nabiki isn't that up on Japanese
History any more, but does English better than the
teacher, she's also fairly happy with her life back in the
States (that slimeball ex-boyfriend the exception) and
doesn't feel the need for blackmail, though she'll exploit
money making opportunities to the fullest. Razor is
being a dutiful husband to Akane, and is torn by the
dilemma of Ranma's pet P-chan...how can he let this
continue?
Neutral Ground:
What of Ralf? What of the Legion Of
Substitute Senshi? Ukyou meets Belldandy. The
year revealed!
Oh My Megumi-san:
Megumi & Freyr? Are they too different
to find common ground? Can Urd keep from meddling?
Maybe Vulcan would have been a better choice, but
I'm already using Hephaestus in Suddenly Susano.
Paradigm Lost:
Ranma's girl form has been "Kasumied" while
Kasumi is now the (probationary) Goddess Of Kitchens?
Can Marller handle that this happened on her beat, and
worse, as the result of her major target Keiichi? Note that
this isn't the vacuous interpretation of Belldandy, this is
the interp of Belldandy that doesn't get concerned with
99% of what's going on because it's not really that important
in her view of the scheme of things.
Purple haired Mountain Majesty:
As some people caught on, this is a Ranma
story where Ranma isn't the focus character. Shampoo
is the main char, and Shampoo is out to learn all she
possibly can. Naturally, she wants to go to school
with her airen. When Ranma moves out of the Tendo
Dojo, it is to move into a small restaurant that the
Chinese group is putting together. Cramped, and
not everyone speaks Japanese, but almost everyone
is friendly towards Shampoo's new airen.
Reikei is the first major thorn (not counting Kuno-
pursuer of both Shampoos) in this developing
relationship when she uses the "Cat's Tongue" on
Ranma to deprive Shampoo of her happiness. A
very different Phoenix Pill arc, as Ranma must learn
the "Chestnut Fist" to be able to block Reikei's
threat of a shampooing she'll never remember.
Mousse, Kuno, Ryouga, etc, etc, all confuse
Ranma in cursed form with Shampoo. The differences
being clothing, Shampoo's breathing problems, Ranma's
hair style doesn't change (while he's got the dragon
hair binding it, that is), though Kasumi and a few others
seem to be able to figure out what to look for.
Ranma Muyo:
Ryouga IS included in this timeline, and
he's descended from a failed Oni (Urusei Yatsura)
colonization attempt. Ryouga gravitates towards
Mihoshi instead of Akane.
Washu finds Ranma & curse almost as fascinating
as Tenchi. She invents the Sex Change Ray Gun,
then discovers the Tengu (Urusei Yatsura again)
already have one. So Washu builds an improved
version just to one up them. Pity about Kuno
picking this time to challenge Tenchi again...
(Kuno shows very irregularly...Kodachi not at all.)
A minor noblewoman of Jurai discovers in a
report that Yosho has descendents. Citing an
ancient contract, she brings her daughter to
marry one of the Yosho descendents- Ranma
to be specific.
Shampoo goes into heavy training to try to
get to the power level of the other cast members,
when Cologne offers information exchanges with
Washu...Washu collaborating with Cologne, is
that scary or what?
We've already got a mad scientist, now how
about an evil sorceress? Yumeko, another Jurai
descendent who walks a different path...
Rei Of Hope:
Evangelions without a dummy plug,
and lotsa Rei Ayanamis running around. Oh,
yeah, Shinji is in the body of Rei II. Rei II is in
the body of Shinji Ikari. Asuka is beside herself.
"What!?!? Where?!" Uhm, I meant figuratively,
actually. Though she's gonna be so freaked out
from watching the two that reactions like that
should be common.
Sailor Marionette J 1/2:
Outside the normal framing device,
yes, but certainly applicable. Will Princess Azusa
name the AVE units something truly silly?
Setting Moon (Tsuki ga shimizu)
Ami, Usagi, and Rei have lost their
ability to channel the Senshi powers, but with
some Washu designed hardsuits. Moon Sabers,
unite! The Legion Of Substitute Senshi?
Spring Of Drowned DNA^2:
The cursed form has an odd mix of
the MegaPlayboy, the Musk warrior who was
shot, and what the bullet was supposed to do,
which is what gives Ranma the fear of women
in his cursed form. The *urges* are leftovers
of the Musk, and the MegaPlayboy body is
because the bullet was meant for someone
entirely different.
Can we see Ranma requiring a
whole new wardrobe every few days as
pieces of clothing turn up...missing?
Suddenly Susano:
Akane coming to terms with Ranma's
death realizes that she's got a live-in god. Can
she at least say goodbye to him? Nabiki meets
Marller as the demoness attempts to seduce
Nabiki in more ways than one. Does Nabiki decide
to take up religion as a hobby or learn to like sulfur?
Young At Heart:
Chibi-Shampoo, having ALSO eaten a
mushroom, is one year younger than Ranma. Cologne
brings her by in Chapter 2, making a deal with Nodoka
to raise her as she doesn't want to go through this
again at her age. Cologne arranges for a tutor in Amazon
Culture & Wu Shu, knowing that nobody trusts her and
this is an opportunity to bring more blood (incl Ranma)
into the tribe by starting their education early.
before anyone suggests otherwise, no i have NOT run
out of ideas.
Genma marrying someone BESIDES Nodoka,
such as an amazon. Ranma and his childhood friend
Shampoo...
Ranma: "Pops wants me to marry an outsider woman,
a daughter of his old training buddy?"
Shampoo: "Shampoo no like. Shampoo find much better
match for friend Shampoo grow up with!"
After two daughters, Soun prays to Kami-sama
that he has a son to become an heir. Kasumi, Nabiki, and
Ataru. Ataru does not turn into a girl, though Ranma does.
Ranma reacted badly to the engagement to Akane, being
engaged to another guy? No way! Nabiki + Ranma?
Consequences. Hel doesn't like happy endings,
and is going back in Bet style, changing the way things
turned out. A dab of oil on a container of gunpowder and
tempura flakes changes the outcome of the first match
between Ranma and Ukyou. The container goes out into
the crowd, the trail of material forming an impromptu fuse.
Ranma tries to get to the container, but it has landed
outside the ring in the audience and explodes. Messy
shrapnel. Ukyou wanted for manslaughter, Ranma
injured perhaps permanently. Akane blaming Ranma for
the deaths, Nabiki an accessory as she sold tickets to an
event where the deaths occurred, and Ryouga gleefully
pouncing on the rift between Akane & Ranma as his big
chance.
Timing. Aeka shows up while Ryoko is chasing
Tenchi all over the school, apparently trying to kill him.
No, Princess, it does not look like they're friends...
Mousse the "Master Of The Dark Arts". Mousse
really is a dark mage, instead of a training potty, he's throwing
soulfire. Will the black mage use his arts to make Shampoo his
slave, or will he forget to put his glasses on and catch someone
else?
Art sideways. Ranma, master of the arts magical,
having vanished during the ten year training mission. When
we first see him, he's been exploring the multiverse and returns to
his homeworld to find his parents. Starting out in Tibet,
he crosses through Jusenkyo and an amazon village to find
that it isn't as easy as he thought to go home again. He meets
someone struggling with groceries, and when he helps Kasumi
carry them and meets Soun Tendo...
Ranma: "...was just there, trying to find home when I saw she
was having some difficulty. That's all. Say, you don't know
where a family named Saotome is?"
Soun: "Sa-Saotome? What would be your father's name?"
Ranma: "Genma. Why, did he steal your food?"
Soun: "..." <thud>
Genma strikes back. Genma gets a wish and
really, really, screws it up. What does he wish? That
the Saotome and Tendo bloodlines were united.
Nabiki cursing Genma as she and Ranma end up merged
into one being with traits of both. Martial Arts finances?
As above but Kasumi's the closer one.
Cancelled plans. Posthypnotic mushroom
episode changes when Kasumi's plans for the evening
are cancelled. Stood up again, looking a long and lonely
life, how is she going to handle being hugged by Ranma?
Neko can't. Ranma was hospitalized after the
Nekoken training. Because of what happened, Ranma is
taken away from his parents and raised by completely
a completely different parent. Possibilities: Miss Honey,
Mr Kuonji, Dr Diggers (called in for an exorcism), any
number of other anime series...
Lonely Hearts. The change is that Kasumi's
last single acquaintance from high school marries two
days before Ranma shows. Tofu hasn't given Kasumi any
indication that he doesn't simply act silly all the time.
Kasumi is lonely, feeling her options slip away, and the
number of eligible bachelors is quite limited. That friend of
hers has just married a younger man, how scandalous!
In comes Ranma. Seeing the fighting between Akane and
Ranma disrupt the household "wa", Kasumi decides to
see if Ranma can be inticed to a more mature behavior if
he was engaged to someone less like himself.
Hocus Pocus. Cologne advises Shampoo not
to try to win Ranma directly, having decided to try a carrot
instead of the stick. Instead she should redirect her
attentions to the obstacles, and find ways to discredit
them or make them happier elsewhere. An Akane/Mousse
romance, for example, would solve TWO problems quite
handily...
Among the newest souveneirs that Ryouga
brings back from his travels is a djinni lamp. Akane is
holding the lamp when she wishes Ranma would "just
go away and die." Ranma vanishes and the word
Granted seems to echo in her mind. The lamp can't
bring people back to life, or affect someone who's
not in line-of-sight, nor can it teleport itself. What
will Akane do?
Earth is being bombarded by meteors, as
the Grays (no relation) prepare to take over the Earth.
Join Kasumi, Ranma, Ryouga, Tenchi, Atsuko, Makoto,
and the others as the Earth Forces launch the ship they've
built in secret to break through the jamming fields and
contact the Juraians for assistance: the UN Spacy Yamato.
Kiima does the Egg spell on Shampoo, but is
forced to leave as a rooftop battle comes too close. When
the egg shatters, the first person Shampoo sees is...
(possibilities: Hiroshi, Ukyou, Lurker, Sayuri, Ryouga)
all for now.
