Tenchi unlocks the gate and enters the cave. In the center of the main
chamber is a spear sunk point first into the ground. He looks at it in
amazement. "Is it true?", he wonders, "Could that be the Spear for the
Subjugation of Evil that grandfather was always talking about?"

Of course, the inverse is interesting as well:

With a resounding thump, Ushio landed on the stone floor. Against the
wall was a skeleton with a strange ivory-colored object stuck into its
chest. "Could dad's stories have been true? Is that really a dead
monster?", he thought as he approached it. Curious, he pulled the object
out. No sooned had he done so, then the dead thing's eyes began to glow.
