Well, I don't have much to say, but I do think you should go and take a
look at other series' besides Sailormoon. More specifically VPM, YuYu
Hakusho, and Slayers. The range of magic as given by your essay limits
all Magic to Sailormoon parameters, and can't be used to describe magic
in other anime series'.
Just my two cents.
Here's a little something to supplement your ideas:
There are essentially 2 types of magic,
a) Magic that changes. (Creation)
b) Magic that moves. (Teleportation)
All magic can be separated into these two categories. See more below.
Change:
Imagine that the space/time continuum is an indefinitely large piece of
cloth, and that everything can be 'described' as an indentation in the
cloth. An apple is a small indentation. A person is a larger one. All
indentations consist of body and soul, two separate indentations
overlapping each other. A part of the soul in a person can be sacrificed
to create an indentation equal in size to the amount of soul sacrificed.
This part can be reshaped into anything, for instance, an apple. The
person can regenerate his soul by re-absorbing the apple into him by a
number of ways; simply touching it and sucking it back in; eating it.
These two types of spells are the easiest spells in existence, the
simplest spell being to create a slight indentation of variable energy.
What this does is create a gravitational field that doesn't otherwise
effect reality. In effect, a levitation spell.
Without sacificing much soul, a person can change the shape of the
indentation created by almost any object, thereby changing its
appearance. As different elements and compounds have specific
indentation forms (ice, for example), and initiations of chemical
reactions (fire) can induced by merely introducing two reactants (easily
created) together, anything can be muted to anything else (air to ice or
air to fire). These are the change spells.
Move:
As said above, anything can be described as an indentation in the
space/time continuum. To add to this, I'll say that all indentations
exist at quantum locations, as do electrons. There are an infinite
number of quantum locations in the space time continuum, and by
sacrificing an amount of soul for energy to be used in the said spell,
anything can be teleported to and from anywhere.
Summoning spells are a combination of change and move spells. They occur
when the magic user creates a virtual energy field and teleports
something to the inside of the energy field. As all teleported objects
have an unatural amount of energy after a teleportation, their actions
are limited to the virtual energy field. If they exit the energy field,
they will return to where they came from. However, if the exiting is not
controlled, they will cease to exist (too much energy was taken, and
their indentation dissappeared). This means that summoned objects are
essentially trapped by the summoner.
Counterspells are opposite indentations to any given spell. When a
counterspell to a spell meets with the spell it counters, there is an
energy release.
