This is the *other* BGC story that shared pages in the Shinnenkai program
book a few years ago with the "Is Nene Gay?" story. The author of this
one, titled "Jekyll and..." , is Martin Pay (sakiki@globalnet.co.uk). All
comments should be sent to him.

btw - when I asked permission to post this, he commented "It's just another
of my 'short-shorts', albeit one of which I'm (probably) too fond... ^_^"

Mega-Tokyo 2033
The Story of Knight Sabers

Jekyll and...

Sylia ground her teeth and growled with frustration. She hauled on the
controls, slewing into a viciously tight turn; the smell of burning mingled
with the stink of sweat, oil and ozone. Her skull jolted against metal; she
saw stars and had to blink hard to clear a sudden rush of tears to her
eyes. And she had been doing so *well*...

She throttled up the power, fighting an urge to howl out her anger.
Concrete splinters flew as she careered into a building, losing another
layer of paint in the process. Hapless pedestrians, innocently caught in
the war zone, ran for cover as the Knight Saber hurtled over the forecourt
of a sidewalk caf. Tables and chairs flew in all directions.

The blare of sirens and the glare of blue-and-red appeared suddenly in the
distance. Sylia risked a glance and swore explosively as a pair of Police
cruisers screamed to a halt in front of her, their crews leaping out and
training their guns in her direction. But they were too late; there was a
heavy impact and the harsh sound of tearing metal, and their cars were
forced apart like toys. Sylia receded into the distance as the cops stood
helplessly, shaking their fists in impotent rage.

Finally: sanctuary. She zoomed down the slope into her underground parking
facility, safe - at last - from pursuit. She turned the key and the
tortured motor fell silent. Shaking still, she unfastened the restraints
and extracted herself from the vehicle, checking her precious cargo for
signs of damage.

Then Mackie appeared in the doorway, a jaundiced look in his eye. He
surveyed the scene for a moment, then sighed heavily.

"Sis, the next time you want take-out, *I'm* driving..."
