X-SCAPE NERIMA
cue music: start out with Roll over Beethoven,
but change to Roll Over Takahashi with appro
changes. hang on folks this goes from strange
to the outright bizarre.
--------------------------------------------------------
"Tiny change, yes?"
Toltiir nodded, a little nervous. Tezuka,
god of manga, could be a little strange at times.
"Tiny change, here!"
"That's a crossover universe," Toltiir
noted from the serial number. "Looks like one that
combines Marvel and various anime/manga worlds.
Not one of your favorites, is it?"
"Watch please. Tiny change, big
consequence. Not only Nerima change, but
we see change there."
Wondering why Tezuka was talking like
that when he could speak any number of languages
fluently, Toltiir noted exactly where the other god
was placing a change. "That one?! My goodness,
Magneto rejected him from the Brotherhood of Evil
Mutants. He isn't even ranked a threat by local
police forces, much less Interpol or any of the anti-
Mutant groups..."
"Is good, yes?"
Toltiir hummed and studied the timeline
as it began to alter.
------------------------------------
sometime in the early '70s:
"Heeheeheeheehee!"
"Master, you are laughing like some
parody of a gay character in a '70s sitcom. Evil
mad scientists must not have a laugh that suggests
that they carpet their lab in pink florals."
"Oh, be quiet, you fool! You do not
appreciate my GENIUS!" Doctor Gabe(1) stopped and
looked at his henchman.
"Try something a little deeper and more
maniacal," Sven suggested. "Something that either
inspires fear or at least lowers property values."
"Oh." Doctor Gabe sniffed. Magneto
had Toad. Doctor Frankenstein had Igor. Dracula
had Renfield. Doctor Madblood had Arlo(2). He had
a "Sven" for a henchman/assistant.
Magneto had a number of secret bases.
Doctor Frankenstein- a castle in a remote stormswept
mountain pass. Dracula had Transylvania. Doctor
Madblood had a castle in the extradimensional rift
located in Pungo in Virginia. He was stuck with a
rickety old freighter turned houseboat in international
waters. Life was not fair.
"But now!" Doctor Gabe exclaimed, not
particularly caring that he had gone from internal
monologue to speaking out loud. "Now, even
Magneto will realize my genius! Sven, now I shall
assume my true destiny, and the world shall be my
clam!"
Sven sighed and considered beating his
head against the wall.
"Is everything ready?" Doctor Gabe
went to the large red switch.
Sven was waiting for IT to happen.
Something always happened. Well, there was
that time that Doctor Gabe had developed the
Bimbo Ray. That WAS why Sven still played
henchman to a blithering idiot, as having a ray
gun that turned the target into a well-endowed
beach bunny had been SUCH a power trip.
Otherwise though, none of Doctor
Gabe's ideas ever worked. They looked good,
field tests were fine, but the moment the Plan
was put into motion, disaster struck.
//Ripple// - a change occurred, as the WWII
mine that would have sunk Doctor Gabe's vessel
failed to blow up as the drifting ship bumped up
against it.
"It's ready, Herr Doctor!" Sven looked
around nervously. Any minute now.
"Yes, Sven, soon this mutagen gas
that I 'borrowed' from Magneto will be released
into the atmosphere, causing mutantkind to throw
off the prejudices of normal humans!"
Sven shrugged. "Are you sure you
wouldn't rather try fixing the Bimbo Ray, Doctor?"
"Push the button, Max!"
Sven shrugged, well, he HAD been
hoping. "I'm Sven, Doctor. Max was your last
assistant." Sven pushed the button, waiting
for the disaster to hit.
Doctor Gabe threw the switch, and
clouds of the mutagenic gas spewed out of the
freighter's smokestacks.
Sven opened his eyes, and noted
that Doctor Gabe had covered his head with
both arms. They had both been waiting for
inevitable disaster, but if it had hit, they
couldn't seem to find it.
"I...I..did it?" Doctor Gabe blinked.
"I actually did it? Sven, I DID IT! I'm a REAL
supervillain, now. Bwahahahahahahahaha."
"Much better," said Sven with a
nod. "Now, can you look at the Bimbo Ray
while you're on that winning streak?"
The drifting mine's fuse took that
moment to make the connection. Doctor Gabe
and Sven were picked up by Japanese fishermen
three days later.
As for the mutagen gas, Doctor Gabe
never had bothered to read the labels.
-------------------------------------------
"Unfortunately, nobody noticed
until many years later," noted Toltiir. "As
the gas only affected a few people, and it
was mainly the children they had later who
manifested any sort of mutant ability."
"Is Doctor Gabe, yes?" Tezuka
blinked owlishly at the little cat. "Plans never
work out."
"True."
--------------------------------------------
well, this isn't even close to
finished, but we can see the nasty little
possibilities, can't we?
Ranma Saotome (Prodigy)
Mutant abilities: learning curve
To make this really different, his learning
curve/potential should not be restricted to
physical skills. The possibility of a Ranma who
can speed read and has a photographic memory.
Alien abilities: unconciously taps into Juraian
tree network to boost his healing rate.
Genma Saotome, affected by mutagen
mutant ability: change written text.
Nodoka Saotome
not a mutant, but of Juraian descent,
can tap into the Juraian tree network in
order to produce a number of effects.
Soun Tendo, affected by mutagen
mutant ability: projective telepathy
"demon head"
Kasumi Tendo (no super identity)
mutant ability: projective empathy,
"aura of niceness"
Nabiki Tendo (Mercenary Girl)
mutant ability: aura reading, psychometry,
psychic talent for finding money
Akane Tendo (Reflex)
mutant ability: photographic reflexes, if
she sees a manuever/technique, she can
duplicate it exactly- chi based manuevers
cannot be copied.
Kodachi Kuno (Black Rose)
mutant ability: projects TK field around
ribbon or other handheld objects.
Tatewaki Kuno (Blue Thunder)
mutant ability: mental defense (mind blank)
imbue wooden objects with ki field
Shampoo
mutant ability: able to use her ki to enhance
any one of her attributes at a time. (speed,
strength, durability, healing factor)
Cologne
mutant ability: longevity, healing factor
Ryouga Hibiki (Desperato)
mutant ability: monstrous amounts of
chi, normally used to enhance strength
or stamina to superhuman levels
Mousse
mutant ability: teleport object
Ukyou Kuonji (Spatula Girl)
mutant ability: spatial acuity
(never play pool with this girl)
Mikado Sanzennin (Romeo)
mutant ability: charm attack enslaves
women with a kiss (only affects non
mutants)
Azusa Shiratori
mutant ability: sees through illusions,
putting up with Mikado

(1) Doctor Gabe is a Champions villain
I came up with years ago. His mutant power is the
ability to override physical laws in his immediate
vicinity, but doing so activates a Bad Luck
disadvantage. Extremely powerful, but he's such
a schmuck that even if his plans did go off, he'd
never achieve what he was aiming for.
(2) If you don't get it, don't worry about
it. If you need details, find someone from Tidewater
Virginia over the age of 20 and they'll tell you.
