varying numbers of narrower stripes, the size of a full stripe on lower
ranks, above that
The rank of Commodore comes and goes in Navy vogue. Currently, there is
no official rank of Commodore. Instead you have Rear Admiral Lower Half.
A two star admiral would be a Rear Admiral Upper Half. The use of
Commodore is reserved for the commanders of ship squadrons, who are
usually Captains in rank.
