      We don't like The Senior Year because it is was too OOC. I 
usually don't mind OOC but I loathe the Senior Year. Most UY fans 
like Ataru because deep down inside he really loves Lum and only 
Lum, he is also a very good natured person. There is no plausible 
reason why he would become a serial killer

Having read all of the stories...yes, every single one of the fifty
main stories and the fifteen plus sidestories, I can not honestly
see Ataru's behaviour as being of a 'serial killer'.  Getting
revenge and going out to kill are two different matters.  Ataru
doesn't set out to kill the Mikado, nor Oogi until there is no
alternative.

       What Ataru does is respond *in* *kind* to people who have 
threatened his life, his (developing) family, and his (real) friends.  
Now, turning one's cheek may be the Christian thing to do, but the 
man is not a Christian.  Under his cultural axioms, what he is doing 
is appropriate.

And even if he -did- espouse some semblance of Christian mores, 
we could equally point to the classical texts of: eye for an eye...
Ataru isn't doing anything to any of the characters, that they haven't
bought it upon themselves.

Let's see the examples....

Mikado - bombs Colony 71, ends up dying at Vos Colony 4 in an
execution seen by the Galaxy.

Oogi - bio-bombed Lecashuto (?), responsible for the imprisonment
of the Avalonians, general pain in the tuckus... - dies prior
to the great Cosmic Auction.

Shwartz - Cademus massacre, dies after being extradited to Yehresil,
with aid from Sagussans...

None of the main characters from within the original UY die, the 
only deaths being Chigaiko Inu (Darling's Secret Date) and the 
suicide of Shinjin Koi (Lum's Lesson).

       I'm not really fond of certain aspects of UY: TSY myself.  I 
find every sequence that's a blatant rip off of a scene in the Star 
Trek movies to be *acutely* painful.  (But I'm the guy who's blending 
every anime ever made into one story.)  I think that the overall 
"sensualist" philosophy is a very bad idea, and that Mr. Herriot's 
obsession with androids is ... well, strange.  (But hey, this is 
coming from a man obsessed with lesbians.) And I wonder what 
Greenbeans was smoking when she let Herriot talk her into
having her appear in his Sailor Moon/UY: TSY crossovers ... but 
that's her problem and none of my own.

Sensualist philosophy as described by Herriot is not tangible within
Western (or even Eastern) mores as they stand right now.  And as 
for the appearance of Greenbeans within Faith No More, that's the
character of Greenbeans and not a SI-appearance.

       But I wouldn't call Ataru's behavior in *that* regard too far 
out of character.  You can only push some people so far, and then 
they either snap or they start pushing back.

And so Ataru got out and pushed. ^^
