Ahhh... Thankfully I am not doing a page on classic fanfics ^^;
Hehe. Oh this one was a bitch let me tell you. I think I have
gotten a total of 5 or 6 responses. Whoopdeedoo. I had hoped for a bit
more. I sure don't want it to be only what I think are classics.
But it is -your- page, n'est pas? ^^;
I saw the TSY description at Tomobiki-cho and sighed... I can see
why the title was changed from Classic UY to TSY to distinguish
the series but I had no problems reading through all sixty odd
TSY stories ^^;
I read the first chapter. It seemed ok, nothing great though. (I
mean
it WAS only the first chapter.) I may put it as a classic in
controversial
fanfiction. I mean I can't think of one story that is both so loved and
so
hated by fans of the series.
ehehehehehehe... I think that I could name a few more stories
which I know of... but the author's are prominent and -I- find
the stories good...<shrug>
One of the defining features of a 'good' readable story is the
way that it -should- raise a reaction from the reader,
regardless of whether it's a 'good' story or 'bad'. You may
not like the concept, but if it can raise a reaction, then
you've caught the attention of the reader...
<cough, cough> I will make notable exception for oscar-fics
and gubby reactions. ^^
I'll be archiving the rest of Herriot's writings. He's already
had the UY-TSY/ The Ishinomaki Years and 20 years later handled,
which means that I'm covering A Remarkable Destiny, Galatea
Syndrome, the Sailormoon fics: Sailor Twins, Faith No More,
College Life: Sisters and Lonely Those Who Gaurd.
Damn, that is a lot of stuff. I still never really liked the
concept
of ARD and Galatea though.
Hmmmm. To me, ARD and GS are alternatives to what many would
consider an alternative timeline already. As lemons, ARD and GS
have succeed partly on the basis that they -do- have a storyline.
Although I recognize that ARD is 'inspired' by the UY lemon:
A Prince and the Lecher (Title?) which was in turn based from
Smendou's The Kidnapping -- another lemon.
I note that a lot of the concepts within ARD and GS find themselves
re-appearing within the main storylines of UY-TSY and UY-TIY. I.e.,
the idea of clan-sister recognition of Fukunokami lesbian/gay
relationships from ARD is brought up in UY-The Ishinomaki Years.
As well, the entire idea of androids/gynoids and the Shoozoki's
first appeared in GS but have also wound their way into TIY.
I could go on and on with similarities that abound, but ... I won't.
I would guess that TSY is not suitable for all readers but it's
certainly not something to be hated.
I never really got around to reading much, it never pulled me in.
It's something that you'll either like, or you won't. I like
reading epic fics or series stories... or long stories...whatever
you want to call them.
I don't know how many of these stories are 'classics' in any
sense:
I liked reading Davies' Together Again: 2937 and 1996.
John Biles' Dance of Shiva, Black Moon Rising, and Bishoujo Senshi
Sailormoon Z. Ranmapunk 2033, Lemonade and Lemon Sherbert would
be classics in many senses.
Jeff Hosmer's Girls' Night Out is seen as a classic by many -- I like.
He's also got the BGC/Patlabor stories: Angel of Light and Angel
of Darkness. I liked those as well.
Eyrie Productions Unlimited: I like their latest epic series:
Neon Exodus Evangelion, but their classics would include Undocumented
Features, Hopelessly Lost (which is on a pseudo-hiatus) and
Gods Willing (another pseudo-hiatus story).
Classic Sailormoon stories would definitely include:
Tim Nolan's Awakenings, Obligations and his Anniversaries lemon set.
Other 'classic' stories would include Jackie Chiang's older
material (as well as newer), Greenbeans' Distant and College Life
Series.
Other classic SM stories would include: Chris Davies' Celebrations,
and the lime/lemon fic: Come to my Window. You might also want to
count Ken Wolfe's The Four Horsemen and Frozen Time. Andy Coombs
The Rabbit Test (a pre-SME fic), as well as F.D. Barr's Trenchcoat
Mask....
SI-fics aside, you might want to look at Mr. Gaffney's Made of Stone
-- the first SI-Saturn fic I read, in fact, one of the better
Saturn stories period. But on the topic of Saturn fics, Made of
Stone, and BSSMZ14 by Jeff Hosmer are two of the better Saturn
stories around...
In some senses, it could be considered a classic fanfic simply
because
it is one of the giants of the field and the repercussions are
very much... Then again, I also would consider Lew Burton's Just
a Dream to be a classic because of its depth and the ideas
introduced...
Yeah those were the reasons I may put it in, under a different
heading. I mean it is freaking huge. Just a Dream is most assuredly a
classic. I mean it fits all the criteria: It was before the huge fanfic
boom, it hold up incredibly well, and it's a very good story. I
consider
it the defining Alternate Dimension fic. It's a shame that Still
Dreaming
was nowhere rear as good as JAD.
<sigh> I liked both stories and for me, at least, he's established
an extensive character background for Sil Dendron... ^^
In some sense, I've picked my own classics and I can stick with them
^^; and I won't expect anyone to agree with me either ^^;
Please share what you think are classics, I NEED something.
