Quietness reigned in the Nerv control. Noone was worried, apart from 
Ritsuko who had noticed that there hadn't been another attack in over 
three weeks. 

"That's interesting."

"What is, Fuyutsuki?" Ritsuko wandered over to his monitor.

"According to this, the stars are now in a position that they havent 
been in for around twenty million years. It's an unusual formation, too. 
Not just a grand cross of the zodiac, but a grand cross of the Galaxy."

Suddenly there was a yell from the other side of the room. 

"Hey! Satellites show a huge disturbance in the Pacific! About midway 
between Chile and New Guinea!"

"Angel?"

"No... it's calming down. Now that is wierd."

"What is?"

"This island."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, it wasn't there before."

Suddenly an alarm started to sound. And another. The main screen for the 
Magi lit up with incomrehensible hieroglyphs, and the speakers started 
bellowing phrases noone understood.

"Ma'am! Something inbound for Earth!" This was Fuyutsuki again, looking 
horrified.

"Angel? Meteor?"

"A ball of fire... moving almost intelligently."

"Mobilise EVA's."

Then there was s scream from the man monitoring the island.

"It's hideous!"

A monstrosity had taken flight. Part squid, part dragon, it should not 
have been.

Ritsuko snapped her head up at a slightly muffled noise over the Magi's 
bellowings. Sprinting out of the room, she found Gendou sprawled over 
his desk, a smoking gun by his side. In front of him was a book, partly 
in Latin, partly in Greek, partly in Hebrew, but mainly Arabic.

Ritsuko looked at the title, and paused. Here, she could hear what the 
Magi were bellowing.

Ritsuko picked up the pistol, and cocked it.

She listened as more reports of monstrosities came in, and of the 
destruction of the EVA units. And to the dementia of the Magi.

"IA! IA! RL'YEH CHTHARAN! CHTHULU PTH'AAN KLAMATH!"

*BANG*
