I think you meant to say that modern day and Crystal Tokyo would be
counted as one age; the "SM" above is the fallen Silver Millennium.

Actually, then the pattern would match the WoT books pretty closely: an
age of high wonders (Age of Legends or Silver Millenium) is ended by the
appearance of a dark destructive being (in the case of Sailor Moon,
Metallia) which is barely sealed away as the world is essentially
destroyed; that age ends. A long period of recovery passes and near its
end magic is somewhat recovered (Rand's Age/Modern age).

Sailor Moon is clearly our own world with magic in the shadows, so to
speak. I think each age is distinct enough that having a Tokyo which is
identical in two different ages during the same turning of the wheel would
be unlikely.

I started to agree with you here but now ... I don't think I can. It's
not an unrealistic supposition - until you consider that the Ages roll
one into the other without a sharp demarcation; I think it's
presumptuous to assume that *everything* and every city is going to be
wiped away suddenly. After all, the Ages span multiple thousands of
years. Even if a city is around at the end of one age and the beginning
of the next, it's not even likely it'll still be there at the end of
that sucessor Age. Hence, I don't see a dimunuition of uniqueness.
(Keep in mind that Crystal Tokyo is NOT a different city anyway -- if
you look closely in both the anime and manga you can actually see that
the old city of Tokyo is under there, just encased. You can actually see
rows of building lights in the R opening credits and in the dream
sequence episode where we see an intact Crystal Tokyo; it's just that
those lights are out and the building shapes within the crystal can't be
made out during the actual time-travel eps.)

I think we can assume that Rand's Age is nearing its end with the
imminent release of Shaitan's seals; even if he's defeated the world
will likely be ripped up and plunged into darkness & chaos again,
yaddayaddayadda. Surely some of the extant world will survive -- my
money's on Rhuidean being an outpost of civilization after all the
fighting. I can see that city surviving long into the succeeding Age.

I think we can compare that to the "time of darkness" and the subsequent
emergence of Crystal Tokyo. True, the manga and anime differ on that
point. As far as the Manga's concerned, the end of Stars was *it* -
Sailor Moon defeated Chaos. Crystal Tokyo is stated to be founded around
2,001 when Usagi hits 21 (thanks to Andrea Doolan for doing the math off
Usagi's age). The anime posits a dark period between now & Crystal
Tokyo; still not a big deal, perhaps they hoped Chaos could be Seasonal
Villain #6. Clearly something Age-ending will occur, probably around the
turn of the (caldendar's) millennium and that keeps the parallel between
the two storylines pretty comparable.

Oh. And Robert Jordan's doing a local signing in less than 2 months.

RUUKII!!
