chap 1: "Uh oh, there goes the neighborhood"

Lian'Ascot, God of Temporary
Positions, smiled. "A small change? How about
a tiny bit more impatience, here?"
"Peorth?" Toltiir smiled. "Excellent choice."

"Keichi Morisato," Peorth said with
a frown. "I will NOT allow you to blemish my
perfect record. You must make a wish."
"Sorry," Keichi shrugged and went
back to working on the latest Auto Club project.
"I'm actually pretty happy with my life right now."
Peorth fumed and unobtrusively cast
a small compulsion that would make Keichi freer
with his tongue than he normally would be.
"So," said Peorth with a small smile.
"Why is it that you're so happy with your life
as it stands? Surely there's something that could
stand improving."
"Not really. Everything is going along
just great since Belldandy and her sisters have shown
up. They're great to be around, despite the problems
having three goddesses hanging about can cause."
Keichi looked up at the sky with a smile. "I just wish
more people could be like them, especially like Belldandy.
She's so kind, and so beautiful, and nice, and she's a great
cook, and polite, and intelligent, she's just so...."
Peorth's jaw dropped even as her goddess
symbols started expanding with light. He couldn't have
actually said....
Peorth's record was intact, but she could just
see a black mark about to be entered anyway.

"I'm surprised you know so much about
cooking, Ranma," Kasumi smiled at Ranma.
"Well," said Ranma with a shrug, "there
were a lot of times where it was me cooking or we'd
starve while Pops and me were on the road. So, it
became a challenge, kinda." Ranma put the apron
on, splashing himself with cold water simply because
cooking in girl form was less embarrassing.
"I see," Kasumi nodded. "Well, I
appreciate the help..."
The Change rolled over that section
of Tokyo.
Ranma and Kasumi turned to each other.
"Oh my," came the eerie chorus.

"So, guys," Makoto called over to the
others, "burgers are almost done." She started
flipping them over.
The Change rolled over that section
of Tokyo.
Makoto Kino stumbled, as she felt
something much like fire wash over her. A few
moments passed while she stared into the
reflective surface of the oven's hood, fingering
the odd blue markings which had appeared on
her face.
Minako Aino, in the next room,
was reacting much the same way to having
quite suddenly filling out her clothes in an
entirely new way.
After the shock wore off, her
friends were actually rather envious.

Things were going just fine in Hell. Violent
crime was up, all of the Seven Deadly Sins were being
invoked on global scales never before seen, and the
amount of depression, hatred, prejudice, and willful
ignorance in the Mortal Realm were at all time highs.
Marller smiled in satisfaction. "It's a good
day to be evil," she commented to a lesser subdemon.
Alarms going off all over the Infernal Plane
disproved that almost as if Marller's casual statement
had been a cue. In a short period the orderly chaos of
the Infernal Soul Exchange had become complete and
utter chaos. Demons running to and fro, sometimes
gutting other demons just because it was the wrong
thing to do, while the klaxons and green flags (red would
have blended in too easily) went off all around them.
Marller stared as the Sin Index of the Mortal
Realm suddenly began a dip that hadn't been seen
since...well, it was certainly before Marller's time.
"What in Hell," Marller managed.

"Sasami! What's wrong?" Tenchi
came stumbling to a halt as he stared at the no longer
quite so young Sasami. "Sasami?!"
"I don't know, Tenchi," said Tsunami/Sasami
as she straightened up. "This wasn't supposed to happen
for a few years at least."
"Washuu, Washuu will know," Tenchi sprinted,
he didn't need some disaster hitting now. He had finals
coming up. With as much studying as he could do around
there, that was quite enough of a disaster.
Tenchi saw Washuu and came to another
stumbling stop. "Oh no."
"Don't interrupt me now, Tenchi!" Washuu
adjusted her now extremely long hair to keep it out of
the way. "I need to bring all my computers and energy
systems on line or Yggdrasil will crash."
"That would be bad?" Tenchi guessed.
"VERY bad," acknowledged Washuu.

Grey, reluctant incubus, looked at the
telltales and whistled. "What the blazes?" He
looked around. "It ain't my fault! i didn't touch
nothing! No! Not the potato!"
Grey wondered if he should abandon
his post, after all, he was barely tolerated here.
Sighing, and making a silent wish that he didn't
take responsibilities so seriously, he watched as
more and more little lights appeared on the control
board.
"This ain't fair, y'know! i'm just a
<ak>good-final-resting-place-aligned demon,
least class, hardly any damn training, and this
happens on MY shift." Grey stopped. "Toltiir.
It's gotta be him, dirty rotten little..."
Finally, with a sigh, he lifted the
owner's manual onto a desk, and was briefly
intimidated. "Great, no index, and roughly
a googleplex worth of pages, written in a
language i can barely understand. Why?
Why me?"

Kitchiri screeched in the
manner of a twelve year old girl with
excellent lungs. That she was a twelve
year old apprentice goddess who had
been booted out of the Divine Retribution
Office for complete incompetence was
purely coincidental.
That Kitchiri could not
understand being likened to some mortal
named Mihoshi was entirely predictable.
"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh,
what am I gonna do?!" Kitchiri looked
at all the blinking lights and the way
more and more of them were going from
green (which was a nice contrast to all
the white and chrome) to an angry
sort of red color. "Oh dear, oh dear."
"What the blazes?" Mambo
Jack, who was EXTREMELY unhappy
with having drawn this duty and was
ESPECIALLY unhappy with the assigned
partner, was rather puzzled. Being only
the god of male sexual endurance, he
knew a hundred times more about
computer maintenence than Kitchiri.
Unfortunately, that didn't mean a
whole lot as Kitchiri thought that
a keyboard was something that you
hung keychains on.
"Oh, maybe it bwoke?"
Jack turned a disbelieving
eye at Kitchiri and suspected that some
demon had gotten into the duty roster.
"Maybe if..."
"No. You. Stay. There.
Do not move, do not touch anything.
I am going to go get one of the people
who's studied up on this system, and
then SHE will come back and fix the
damn thing. Do. Not. Touch." Jack
waited for a moment then left at a
sprint. Maybe if he was fast enough...
"I wonder..." Kitchiri said
as she watched the little red blinking
lights. "Maybe, if I put some music on?
They say plants respond to music, don't
they?"
Kitchiri leaned over the board,
THIS looked like a radio!

"Unknown energy spike!" Maya
reported. "It just appeared out of nowhere!"
"Look at the angel's reaction,"
Ritsuko said in a curious voice. Inwardly she
was ready to head to one of those specially
constructed safety capsules.
Misato watched as the globular
angel that had been floating serenely over
the city, jerked like a singed kitty and promptly
headed straight up at a 12g acceleration. "It...ran?!?"
"Visual," announced Maya as she
switched the main monitor to show the new
event. A "postbox" in the lower right continued
to show the gleaming dot of the angel that had
been there a moment ago.
A glowing two-dimensional circle
was gradually increasing in brightness. It then
contracted in on itself and left a visible pulse
going out from where it had been a moment ago.
"Oh. This is...interesting." Rei's voice
sounded slightly more emotional than normal.
For Rei this meant she was practically bouncing
around in the entry plug shrieking.
"Whatever that pulse is, it went
through her AT Field like it was nothing!"
Misato looked at where Ritsuko was busying
herself with sensor readouts. "Uhm, Rits..."
"In a minute, Major!"
"Uhm, Rits?!"
"Just a moment!"
"That pulse is currently going about
10mph."
"7.215mph, Major."
"What happens when it hits here?
I'm just kinda concerned, y'know?"
"With all the armor we have in place,
we're safe, I'm sure of it." Ritsuko finished getting
the telemetry from Unit 00. "This is odd."
"Two seconds until pulse arrives!"
"What?" Ritsuko managed, looking
up at the graphic that showed that the pulse
was gradually increasing speed.
The Change caused Melchior to
take an active interest in the Cooking channel.

Megumi Morisato checked her
face in the mirror as she tried to rub the odd
tattoos off. The blue four-pointed starburst
on forehead and both cheeks would NOT come
off.
A moment later she was running for
Keichi's house. There was only one group she
knew with these odd things, and if anyone had
an answer, she knew they would have it.

Ryo Saeba grinned, entirely lecherously,
and declared that he must be in Heaven. After all,
the number of beautiful women in Tokyo had just
increased astronomically!
"Ryo," a tall, voluptuous, woman with
a mane of white hair stopped in front of him. "What's
the big idea looking at me like that?"
"Ohhhhhh. Beautiful foreign woman,"
Ryo snickered. "Ah, let me show you My City."
"Knock it off, Saeba! It's me. Umibozu."
"Eh!?" Ryo blinked. Those were Falco's
sunglasses alright. "You're his sister?"
"I'd explain, but I think you have other
problems right now." The strange woman put some
distance between City Hunter, and
herself.
"RYO!" Kaori frowned.
"Kaori? What's with the dumb
makeup?" Ryo stared at the markings, especially
as they seemed to glow slightly.
"BAKA!" Kaori pulled a hammer out
of nowhere, as usual. This one seemed to be
covered in runes and burst into green flames
when she started twirling the old-fashioned
warhammer. "Did you think I wouldn't find
that you stole one of my bras?"
"Nice trick..." Ryo managed before
the hammer struck.

one in twenty people affected?
one in a hundred of the Changed is a probationary
low-powered goddess (somewhere below the level of
certain Nerima martial artists with a power directly
related to their portfolio)
odd mutant abilities or strange hereditary talents
awakened? Silver Millenium personas coming out?
Oh my!
Obviously the level of complexity leaves this open
for a shared world along the lines of Thieves World,
with authors who feel comfortable with a particular
storyline detailing out chapters that deal with the
changes in a particular setting.

no, i'm still not on the FFML, but there's a few people
