Action-oriented Ranma fanfiction simply doesn't work. The best of them
are boring, and the worst are plain bad. Action-oriented Ranma fics that
use new antagonists are guaranteed to be very bad.

<Yawn.> GUTB is of course, wrong. It is not true that action
oriented Ranma fiction "doesn't work" but it is true that it
takes more effort to make it work. Whether or not the antagonist
is new has little bearing on whether an action-oriented fic is good or
not. However this Terminator/Ranma fusion is taking a high-risk road
by introducing both a new antagonist and a new protagonist who appears
to be about to shove Ranma aside and take on the job of saving Akane.
(Of course it's possible that GUTB has confused the roles of antagonist
and protagonist).

It seems problematic at best to leave Ranma out of a Ranma fanfic,
particularly when you have an imperiled Akane. Assuming this follows
the Terminator template, for one thing, Ranma would make a perfectly
acceptable alternate target since he's presumably the father.

I hope that the author won't go so far as to cut Ranma entirely out of
picture by duplicating the pivotal Terminator plot twist. For one
thing, that would be unoriginal.

The author can explore Ranma much more effectively confining himself to
the canon material.

GUTB is of course wrong. There is no guarantee that any given author
can do such a thing. Further his assumptions about the goals that can
be imposed externally upon authors are unjustified and unjustifiable.

Action-oriented Ranma fics like this one are not
only inadequate vehicles for powerful character interaction, but add
insult to injury by removing things so far from the canon.

GUTB is of course wrong. Action oriented Ranma fics are frequent weak
in character interaction, but some action fics such as "Relentless" have
had strong character interactions.

And now, on a personal note, I have to wonder. Is GUTB deliberately
trying to come up with a lamer pseudonym than the last every time he
changes identities? How ever will he top this one?

Those who use killfiles may want to update them now.
