The Korish military boasted a large army, a powerful navy,
an effective air force... and more than enough conventional,
biological and nuclear weapons to destroy El-Hazard completely.
The most dangerous weapon, was still in the planning
stages. The engineers only had a vague idea of what to do, and
were placed under heavy security in some hidden stronghold known
only to a handful of people in El Hazard.
Thus, no one knew the true terror that was looming over
them. The citizens, government and troops were all relaxed.
Even the most serious of troops were clowning around, which
were what they were doing right now.
CRP. Mich Fijis was part of the toughest company in the
Korish Army, Company 666, Bringers Of Death, or BOD.
Right now, Fijis was seated on top of a tank, a large can
of beer in one hand, and cheering as his teammates grappled with
one another in front of a cheering crowd.
"Come on Private!!" Fijis roared as Private Mass Benson
was thrown to the floor by CRP. Dirk Londs. "Give him a right!!
A left! Another left! A right!! Yeah, that's right!!"
A few minutes later, the fight was over (Benson had lost
to Londs).
Fijis swore and dug into his pocket to pull out a large
wad of bills as Londs strutted over to him.
"I TOLD you not to bet against me," Londs grinned as he
grabbed the large wad of bills.
"$500!!" Fijis swore, "I just lost $500! Come on Londs,
fight me! You have to give me a chance to win that back! I
win, you give that back to me. You win, I'll double it. What
do you say?"
"You're on!" Londs said, grinning. "$1000 dollars! Beer's
on me, everybody!"
The crowd cheered as Fijis swung off of the tank he was
sitting on, finished the last of his beer, and crushed the
can on his forehead. He gave a roar of confidence as he
faced off against Londs in the middle of the courtyard.
"FIGHT!!"
Giving a shout, Fijis lunged towards Londs and grabbed
the long haired man in a crushing bear hug.
Londs winced but struggled, and managed to slip out of
the hug. As he fell to the floor, he crouched down and tripped
Fijis, who fell on his back.
Londs grinned and looked down at him. "You're getting
slow, Corporal!"
"No way!" Fijis replied, flipping to his feet and punching
Londs in the face, all in one action.
Londs swore as he stumbled back, holding his nose. Fijis
grinned and jumped forward, punching Londs several times in
a second, all his punches connecting.
Londs fell back, and held up a hand. "Enough!! Enough!!"
He cried.
Fijis stopped his attack and squatted. He helped Londs to
his feet and both friends were grinning. "You okay?"
Londs nodded. "Yeah." He reached into his pocket to give
the money back to Fijis.
"Next time you'll think twice before accepting a challenge
from the Korish Military Fighting Champion!" Fijis boasted.
Londs laughed. "Champion? Whatever! You won by luck, Fijis!
I bet I could've won you if Benson didn't tire me out!"
"Are you asking for a rematch?" Fijis taunted, with a grin.
"No. I can't beat you NOW. But I bet anyone ELSE could!"
Fijis lifted his hands into the air and spun around. "Is
that so? Hey, yo! Anyone! Wanna fight me?"
There was a lot of laughing and cheering, but no one
actually stepped out.
Fijis laughed. "Come one! I've been itching for a GOOD
fight! Anyone?!" More laughing and cheering, but no one stepped
out. Finally, Fijis laughed again. "Tell ya what! You fight me,
and win, and you'll get this!!"
Fijis waved his $500 dollars in the air.
There was lots of laughing and cheering, and some soldiers
were thinking about it, but most knew that they didn't stand a
chance against CRP. Mich Fijis, who had the strength of Superman.
"No one?"
"I challenge!!"
The laughing and cheering stopped as everyone looked around,
trying to see who had the guts to fight Fijis. Suddenly, the
circle they were in parted, and in the middle of the parting,
stood the challenger.
Fijis squinted as he looked the challenger up and down.
Something didn't look right about him.
He looked too skinny and his skin was just too fair. He
also had a large lump on his chest and he didn't have an Adam's
apple...
Because the alcohol he just drank was starting to get to
his mind, it took Fijis a while to figure out what was wrong
with the challenger.
He wasn't a he. He was a she.
She had black hair, tied back, and her arms were crossed
in front of her chest. She stood tall and proud with a sparkle of
amusement in her eyes. She wasn't wearing the uniform of a Korish
soldier, so she had to be a civilian.
"Hey you," Fijis said. "How did you get in here? You aren't
part of the army!"
"No. I no part of army. I just climb over fence there,
because I see you fight, and I heard you challenge. I want fight
you, Corporal Fijis."
"How did you know my name?"
"I hear other people talk about you. We fight, yes?"
Fijis laughed. "Sorry. I don't fight women. Especially
CIVILIAN women."
She grinned. "Maybe you just afraid you lose to civilian
woman."
The audience oohed at her statement while Fijis narrowed
his eyes.
Londs clapped Fijis on the shoulder, grinning. "Are you
going to take that from her, Fijis?"
"I am NOT scared to fight you."
"Then fight me!!" She said. "I promise I be worthy challenger.
Maybe even beat you. I very good."
Fijis thought about it for a moment. He eyed the girl once
more, looking her up and down.
~Hmm.. she's a beauty~ Fijis thought to himself. This girl
radiated power and pride, and those were two qualities he found
irresistible in a woman. "Alright. I'll fight you. But don't say I
didn't warn you!"
"Good! Same terms of fighting, yes?"
"No, wait." Fijis said. A glint came to his eye as the
alcohol in his bloodstream suggested something naughty to him.
"Tell you what. If you win, I'll give this to you." He waved
his money. "If you lose, you won't have to pay me $500."
The girl frowned. "You think I no can pay you?"
"It's not that." Fijis said. "It's just that... I want
something... different. For a prize." He strolled up to her,
standing very close to her. He grinned, looking down on her. She
wasn't short for a woman, she looked to be almost 6 feet tall...
but he was very tall for a man, being 6'11, and towered almost a
foot over her.
The girl's frown deepened. "What you want?"
Fijis was standing so close to her, when he looked down, she
had to look directly upwards to see him in his eyes.
"You."
Fijis's teammates all heard him loud and clear, and they
were very silent, trying to catch the girl's reply.
The girl's eyes darkened for a moment, before she grinned.
Reaching up with one hand, she pulled him down by the collar of
his shirt.
Her strength surprised him and Fijis found his nose to be
only half an inch away from her nose.
"When I first scan you ki," she whispered, more to herself
than to him, "and found you here, your ki tell me you different
from most men. But maybe I scan wrong first time. You no
different. Oh well. Maybe that better. Now I no feel guilty when
I beat you."
Fijis recovered from his surprise. "What's your name?" He
asked softly.
"Jene."
"Well Jene," he whispered. "You sound pretty confident. I
like that. I like YOU. Do we have a deal?"
Jene's eyes hardened. "We have deal."
"Good." Fijis suddenly leaned down an extra inch, his lips
making contact with hers, much to her surprise.
His teammates all oohed and ahhed. Some of them applauded
when he walked away from her after, about three meters, and got
in a ready position. They gathered in a circle around them.
Jene was so surprise and angry at the sudden kiss, one
could almost see the fire burning in her eyes as she glared at
Fijis.
"Oooooeee! Is he a good kisser?!" One soldier laughed.
"Hey pretty lady!" Another soldier called. "Don't throw the
fight now!"
Jene's eyes narrowed as she got in a ready position. "I
defeat you in less than ten seconds. No mercy," she swore.
The crowds cheered.
"FIGHT!!"
Jene lunged forward her fist cocked, and slammed it right
into Fijis's face. He was flung back and crashed into the fence
painfully.
Fijis's eyes went wide and he gasped for air. He stared at
the girl who was walking towards him.
~How did she DO that?!~
Fijis groaned, and pulled himself out of the wall. He took
a swing at Jene, who calmly ducked then swept his legs out from
under him.
While falling, Fijis managed to flip to his hands, which
surprised Jene, and managed to kick her in the face.
Jene gave a cry, and stumbled back a few steps, clutching
at her eye. Then, she gave a growl as she glared at Fijis who
was on his feet.
Shaking with fury, Jene calmly pointed a finger at Fijis,
who looked at her warily.
With a cry, Jene's ki flared up around her, and a beam of
ki energy fired out from her finger, slamming right into Fijis's
chest and slamming him into the fence once more.
Thankfully, it was a sturdy fence, and Fijis didn't break
through it.
After that attack, Jene calmly and briskly walked forward,
pulled Fijis out of the fence, then slammed him into the ground,
leaving a hole in the cement.
The crowd was no longer cheering.
Squatting, Jene pulled Fijis out of the rubble and threw
him onto the ground back were the fight had originally started.
"I win, yes?" Jene asked Londs.
"Uh..."
Growling, Jene snatched the money out of Londs's hands.
"Wait!" Londs blurted out, "how did you DO that?!"
There were many whispers and talks amongst the crowd.
"Feh," Jene replied with a wave of her hand. "You no see
anything yet."
She started to walk away before she stopped and turned to
look at the rather stunned crowd. She looked rather guilty.
"He... should be fine. If not, then... I come back tomorrow,
take look." Then, she flew up into the air, and flew off.
The crowd was still talking and stared up at her as she
left.
"No wonder Fijis lost," someone commented. "She must be a
DEMON or something!"
Fijis gave a moan and managed to open one of his eyes. He
watched as Jene floated up and away, and heard the comment. ~No,~
he thought. ~She's not a demon... she's a goddess.~
Londs however, had an opinion of his own, and narrowed his
eyes.

When Muldoon came home with her sisters, she found that
their guest had made dinner. Muldoon raised an eyebrow whereas
Shayla, Arlamond and Ifurita gave squeals of delight and ran to
the table.
Jene gave a grin, and motioned for Muldoon to sit, which
the girl did, suspiciously. That was when Muldoon noticed that
Jene's left eye was slightly swollen.
"What happened to you?" Muldoon asked.
Jene grinned again. "I get in fight. Win money. That how
I can go get food." Jene motioned to the food that the younger
three girls were wolfing down like no tomorrow.
"Here. I give rest to you because you let me stay," Jene
said, handing Muldoon a wad of money.
Muldoon's eyes went wide. There was close to $400 here!
She had never held so much money in her hands ever before.
"Y...You won this in a... street fight?" Muldoon asked.
Jene nodded. "Yes."
"Great priestess," Muldoon swore, "if I had known there
was so much money to be won in street fights, I would have
continued to train instead of working as a stupid servant in
this stupid palace!!"
Jene raised an eyebrow. "You probably make much money
if you do, even with present skills."
"What? Me?" Muldoon asked with a laugh. "Oh no, the only
martial arts I know are basically self defense."
Jene frowned. "I no understand. You water wielder. Only
very good martial artists can go onto school of elemental
fighting." Jene paused. "At least. Where I come from, this
true."
"You don't understand," Muldoon replied. "Here, only
priestesses can wield the elements, and a priestess can never
use her powers for money."
"You a priestess?"
Muldoon gave a sigh. "Well... I was going to be."
"What stop you?"
"Well... mother used to be a priestess," Muldoon said
quietly.
Shayla, Arlamond and Ifurita stopped eating and listened
in. Shayla and Arlamond had never known their mother. She had
died when Arlamond wasn't even one yet. Muldoon was the only
person who had known her mother, but she rarely ever spoke of
her.
"Where your mother?" Jene asked.
Muldoon swallowed. "I... I'd rather not talk about her."
"Aw come ON, Mully!" Shayla cried. "You never talk about
mother! Pleeeeeease?!"
"Shayla..."
"Pleeeeeeease?" Shayla asked while she elbowed Arlamond in
the ribs.
Arlamond winced before she too joined in. "Pleeeeeease?"
Seeing her two older sisters do so prompted Ifurita to do
the same, and Muldoon could never really deny Ifurita anything.
She sighed. "Alright. Maybe later."
*****************************************************************
Night found Muldoon outside in the royal gardens. The
servants were allowed to use the gardens, and anything on the
palace grounds, provided that it didn't interfere with the royalty.
Muldoon had asked to leave directly after dinner, to
avoid what she knew would come next. That had been hours ago,
and Muldoon had yet to return.
~One perk to being a servant to the royal house,~ Muldoon
muse, ~there are lovely gardens to wonder around in. Maybe they'll
forget about the thing until tomorrow...~
Muldoon sat in a secluded section of the garden and sighed.
She looked up at the moon.
"Why?" She asked. "Why did you have to do that?! How could
you do that to us? To me?! Have you any idea what you've done?"
The silence answered her questions as Muldoon stared up at
the moon.
"I think you talk about your mother, yes?" Asked a soft
voice. "Then I think you should wait. You tell younger sisters
you tell them too."
Muldoon whirled around and saw Jene looking at her
questioningly.
"How did you know?!" Muldoon demanded.
Ifurita, Shayla and Arlamond poked their heads out from
behind Jene.
Muldoon sighed. She gave a weak smile and patted on the
spaces beside her.
Shayla and Arlamond scrambled to sit on either side of
their sister whereas Ifurita sat in Muldoon's lap. Jene stayed
where she was.
"I know I never told you guys about her," Muldoon said.
"But I have a good reason." Muldoon paused and bit her lip. She
didn't know what to say. "I... I guess it's because I... I hate
her, maybe. I loved her, for what she use to be. I hate her,
for what she has made us go through, since her demise."
Muldoon took a deep breathe. "Our mother was a great
priestess. The last of the great priestesses which followed the
old, old ways, and had control over the elements. Each priestess
is suppose to have control over one element, but mother was
able to control all three.
"When war broke out, and the last ruler decided to go all
out against Necromia, conscription notices were sent to every
family. Our family was of the priesthood, and therefore, was
exempt from the conscription. One day, mother was rearranging
some things, when she found a copy of the conscription notice.
Muldoon gave her lip. "After that, she decided to join
the army. She felt that, since the family didn't go the first
time around, she should join the army, because of some sort of
perverse sense of honor and duty. She thought because she could
control the three elements, she would be safe."
Muldoon swallowed. "Having control of all three elements
didn't save her when she got nuked in a freak accident during
a missile testing."
At this point, Muldoon got slightly angry. "She was so
stupid! What was she THINKING?! She had three young kids at
home and yet, she could drop them all with a neighbor and run
off to join the army! Did she even care about us in the
SLIGHTEST?!"
Gradually, Muldoon managed to calm down. "The royal family
got guilty over the accident, when they learned of the accident,
so they decided to accept us into the palace as servants, and
gave us a place to live."
Muldoon took her sisters into a hug. "You guys shouldn't
be living like this," she said guiltily. "You three should have
started training in the ways of the priestess, but mother died
before she could teach you."
"How come you no teach them?" Jene asked.
Muldoon's lips twisted up slightly in a wry grin for a
moment. "I tried to do that, once." She turned and looked
purposely at Shayla, who suddenly turned red. "There were
disastrous outcomes. Besides, mother only taught me the way of
the water. I have no idea how to work fire and wind."
"How disastrous?" Jene asked again. "What happened?"
Muldoon chuckled. She showed Jene a ring she had on a
chain around her neck. "This is what is called a 'control'. It
helps and amplifies my skill with water. Without it, I could
still work water... but with it, I'm much better."
Muldoon grinned. "If I had this on the first time we
fought... I wouldn't have lost."
"Don't bet money on that," Jene retorted.
Muldoon laughed. "Anyway, each one of us has one. Arlamond's
is an amulet she can put on her belt. Shayla's..."
"Is it my fault my 'control' was in the weirdest and
stupidest form possible?!" Shayla cried.
"Shayla's control is called 'The Lamp of Fire'. It's called
the lamp for a reason." Muldoon explained. "Naturally, first time
Shayla used it... she broke it."
"Hey, I didn't break it completely!! I still have the
most important crystal part!!"
"Yeah, maybe so, but the lamp part was used to draw power
out of the crystal part. With out the lamp part, the crystal part
is useless!" Muldoon rolled her eyes. "So you see, after THAT
disaster, I didn't dare teach them anything else."
"You still have "lamp of fire'?" Jene asked curiously.
Muldoon looked at Shayla who nodded.
"Yeah... but I keep it in my secret place so no one can
get to it." Shayla replied.
"Ain't your secre' place 'n your pillow case?" Ifurita
asked innocently.
Shayla turned and stared at Ifurita, her eyes wide. "Hey!
How'd you find out?!"
Arlamond made frantic 'shut up' gestures at Ifurita who
ignored them.
"'Cause," Ifurita replied simply. "Me 'n Arla play with
the pretty red rock in your pillow case all the time!"
Arlamond suddenly got up, and ran as though her life
depended on it. Shayla was hot on her tail, screaming.
