Memory

(Neon Genesis Evangelion is owned by Gainax, the song Memory comes from the musical Cats by Andrew Lloyd Webber. None of which is owned by me, is intented to make me any money, and the only benefit I'm claiming is using it as an excuse to get out of a paper that's due soon.)   

(Opening scene: Tokyo3 at night, the buildings are in their 'up' position and a full moon shines on the city.) 

Midnight. Not a sound from the pavement.
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone.

(Close in to see Rei standing next to a lit street lamp, dressed for chilly weather.) 

In the lamplight the withered leaves collect at my feet.
And the wind begins to moan.

Memory all alone in the moonlight.

(We see Shinji staring at the moon from Misato's apartment.)
 
I can smile at the old days, I was beautiful then.

(Misato standing in front of the mirror, tracing the scar on her chest)

I remember the time I knew what happiness was.

(Asuka, remembering the time before her mother's insanity and death)

Let the memory live again.

(Gendou in front of Unit-01's cage, he seems to be weeping softly)

Every street lamp seems to beat a fatalistic warning.

(Rei leaves the street lamp and starts walking)

Someone mutters and a street lamp gutters and soon it will be morning.


Daylight. I must wait for the sunrise. 
I must think of a new life and I mustn't give in.

(Rei looks into the window of a closed shop, we can just make out that it's a clothing store.)

When the dawn comes, tonight will be a memory too.

(Kaji remembering carrying a drunk Misato home)
 
And a new day will begin.

(Instrumental)

(Shinji leaves the apartment, and starts to wander around Tokyo3) 

Burnt out ends of smoky days

(Shinji remembering when his father left him)

The stale cold smell of morning
The street lamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning

(Rei looks to the East where a small sliver of light can be seen)

Touch me, it's so easy to leave me

(Shot of a young Shinji in Yui's arms)

All alone with the memory

(Shot of Rei looking at the sunset in Unit-00)

Of my days in the sun

(Shot of Shinji clowning around at school)

If you touch me you'll understand what happiness is

(Rei and Shinji bump into each other, Rei falls and Shinji helps her up)

Look, a new day has begun

(Blushing ever so slightly, Rei points out the dawning sun to Shinji, who still hasn't removed his hand from hers)

I'm not sure if you could really C&C this, but if you want to try it, I'm game.
